2017 BMW Articulating Headlamp Malfunction on dash
Called to work on headlamp giving AHL Malfunction on dash. Updated by coding with no resolve. Bulb activates upon start up for ½ sec then goes off (left lamp functions correctly). Tool activates lamp when testing but doesn’t stay on. Not sure if moisture has compromised as it may have been sitting outside exposed prior to repairing. AHL requires ADAS calibration but can’t get that far because of error codes.
I woulswap headlamp assemble take the one that’s working from left side and plug it up to the right and see if u still have a problem if it works fine u probably have a problem with one of the modules I found on bmw headlights it’s quickest just to swap parts from the working side to narrow the problem down yes I know swaptronics but it may save u some time
I agree with reply before mine. Definitely easier to swap modules from one head light to the next for diagnosis. Does sound like a headlight driver module is out though.
Look under the headlight covers and find the LEAR module - inspect it for signs of water damage
As per TIS instructions, swapping the modules and headlights is the only way to diagnose the problem. As someone mentioned, water intrusion is the most common reason for headlights failure.
Yes, exactly what I was thinking. Thank you all for the advice/guidance
