Writing VIN/ Mileage to a new PCM
Hey guys we are replacing a PCM due to the old PCM not being able to pull one of the Shift Solenoids all the way to ground.
I've never replaced a PCM on this year and it looked pretty straight forward but I can't get the VIN to write to the new PCM.
Originally tried with an autel scanner and it says the VIN write failed so we tried the Snap On Modis.
The Modis asks for a PCM Variant but I can't find any information on which variant to select besides combining 2 numbers on the ECU information section in the scan tool.
The repair instructions say to use a scan tool but is it really wanting me to use the OE scan tool?
Am i going to have to use a J2534 box?
thanks in advance.
If it's new it has to be programmed first then run the pcm replaced function to write VIN and transfer PIN and secret key
You will definitely need to be online to program, either with WiTECH or J2534, new PCMs come “blank”. There may be extra steps for security after that.
Which Autel do you have? I have done this many times with autel. Do you have a drew J2534?
There have been the odd times that Autel said failed when it actually worked. Check for the vin. in your pcm.
Cody, Could you respond with a picture of the PCM?
If you have any jbox . Get toolbox3 and go to chrysler option you can change vin and reset skim and Sri. No need for subscription. Also autel scanner are able to doit no problem
I have a drewtech but have only programmed gm and ford so far
With some early CAN you can try “PCM Replaced” in WCM menus. If so will need the PIN # for car, a friendly dealer may help or get with a NASTF VSP, though not a rolling code like newer FCA. I am not familiar with aftermarket scan tools other than my Solus which will not do it. I use WiTECH which is a sure bet. May work with J2534 with WiTECH subscription, used to be Tech Authority J2534 app…
You have to program it first. What does the Autel show as the part/calibration number?
