GEM programming failed

Hello DN,

I'm not a programming expert by any stretch of the imagination but I have programmed countless Ford's with never an issue.

Trying to reprogram this GEM as per TSB, I get a “module programming failed” message. I van communicate with the module and view data etc…

A call to IDS tech support yielded no positive results, IDS is updated to the latest and greatest version.

Is this a truck side problem and if so how can I troubleshoot it?

Any and all insight is welcome, thanks.

Is that the SJB that requires 2 keys relearn/fobs, and learn TPMS, and then run a self test on it to complete?

I think with a PMI it might require 2 keys but I'm just trying to reprogram.

So you're programming the existing BCM or gem for a bulletin update. Was it presenting any codes before, and did anything change code wise after the programming failed to complete?

Yes I am updating as per TSB 07-9-1 for the plow lights. It has 2 codes stored for a low beam short to ground or overcurrent on both beams. And there is a code for the TPMS. I don't have the exact codes in front of me currently I'll have to get them tomorrow. I performed the same update to a different truck 2 weeks ago with the same headlight codes present and had no issues at that time.

I’d make sure there aren’t any aftermarket modules on the network and I might also restore the headlight wiring to “factory” and try again. Good luck and Happy Trails

Is it stuck in a loop where it will allow you to keep re-attempting? If so there are some things you may be able to try but it depends on where in the process it fails.

It fails after the “gathering module information" stage where it will then go on to program the module, the status bar will quickly go from 0 to 100% where it will then fail and it will let me repeat the process.

If you can leave it connected for a while and have anydesk I can try and login today and see if I can help. I have a loaded schedule so I can't promise anything but send me a message on messenger or an email …

Thanks Mike, The customer is electing to not switch the lights between plow and truck with the ignition on rather than spend any more resources on this truck.
