Metal To Metal Sound

Getting a loud grinding/rattling/metal to metal sound under heavy acceleration only happens under full boost in 1st gear. More pronounced when cold. We thought it was the turbo as it was also leaking oil pretty heavily, we replaced the turbo with oil feed line and filter to no avail. Hard to isolate given the conditions in which it presents itself. Vehicle has 121,500 miles.

changed alot of motor mounts on these cars for all kind of noises….many of the mounts have been redesigned…if you change the mounts, only use OE and change ALL of them

Sounds like a pretty expensive misdiagnosis, hope the customer wasn‘t charged for that mistake.

Shouldn't be so very hard to diagnose. Only occuring in 1st gear indicates that something is shifting. The turbo doesn't care what gear is selected. Use some remote monitors such as Chassis-Ears if necessary.
