Cannot do TSB Update on Kia
This is the second Kia in as many months that the j2534 tool does not recognize the update present in the TSB and says there's no programming event available.
Could not find valid reprogramming event!!
I sprung another $75 to download the tool again thinking that maybe it had passed outside the quarterly expiration, but it hadn't. That was a waste of money.
FUE053 is the TSB. The current calibration in the PCM is DNU6PK24C00 which is eligible to be updated to DNU6PK44C00.
I had the same issue with it another Kia from the same year it did the same thing, but I wrote it off to there being something strange going on with KiaTechInfo. But, apparently this is ongoing.
I've done these in the past, but something has changed.
Edit - their “diagnostic tool” is for 2018 and up, BTW.
What pass-through device are you using. Are you using the Gscan because that J 2534 system in that scan tools for a Hyundai and Kia
I normally just grab any J box I have laying around since it's always worked in the past. But once it started giving me a hard time, I grabbed my Bosch MVCI which is one of their listed devices.
We've noticed the same thing over the last year. What used to be a really reliable setup, is no more. Others have posted about this, there may be more in their threads that helps with the solution. We've sent several emails and never even gotten a response from them. Have not tried an SIR yet
I did a search of this forum for a situation like mine, but I didn't find one.
Hello Jeff, We experienced same problem on a 2017 Elantra that needed a ECM software update we found in a bulletin to revise control logic for completion of OBD-2 fuel system readiness monitor. We verified the calibration needed to be updated. Payed our $75 and used our Cardaq-M-MC and hoped it was going to be routine. Received same message *Could not find valid reprogramming event*. Reviewed…
I would suggest filing a detailed SIR through NASTF. If you have everything documented, it is the best way of getting things resolved.
As has been well evidenced here and elsewhere, Kia/Hyundai is completely unresponsive to NASTF SIRs. I think their newest offensive in Massachusetts is an indication of their resolve in that respect. “Send it to the dealer”.
The H/K J2534 system has had directory issues recently. Actually, I've been blaming this issue on the recent ransomware attack that they suffered last year. I have no evidence that that is the exact cause, but it seemed to become an issue right around that time and it at least sounds good to my clients when I spent the time and money to do it right per the OEM and still can't get it…
+1 to what Mike Reynolds posted. This has been happening on the J side quite a bit. Mike, I like the Ransomware explanation. I will use that as well. :)
Unfortunately, this is not the first time I've encountered this exact scenario and I reached out to H/K with no result just a few months ago.. No call back. No e-mail. I'll start a SIR, but we all know how (in)effective those are. Not to mention that I seldom get a second shot at a car - if I can't get it done, it goes to the dealer. I am the dealer alternative. I have the older GDS system -…
Jeff, All of us in the mobile game encounter the same set of issues. Your issues are not unique. I have encountered this many times in times in the last couple of years. Sometimes it gets resolved other times not. It is part of the game. The only surefire way is to pony up for OE tablets and interface.
