2009 and older Chrysler improper used PCM calibration

I was out of town recently and had the chance to visit multiple shops, discussing training needs among other things. I was surprised that the shops in this area told me "it is impossible to program a used Chrysler PCM" They stated the mobile service in the area and the dealer could not do it.

So here is a video showing the tricky part of getting the legacy j2534 app to program the correct calibrations to a used PCM.

I am aware that the legacy application will be run though witech in the near future, we will see if there is still a work around? ( I am thinking to start the process then turn off the internet and locate the file , make adjustments , turn internet back on? ( probably will not work we will see)youtube.com/watch?v=Rme33U…

Chrysler has stated they are not going to continue support of the legacy j2534 application in September. I would bet this is going to no longer be a viable option at that point.

Question on that Witech 2.0 merging with the legacy stuff. Have you heard or been able to determine of that merge will allow us to start using the legacy version through our current tech authority subscription and using the micropod? Or will it definitely need a J2534-witech subscription and J2534 box.... or a J2534-witech subscription and micropod might work?

I have not tried to access the legacy application via witech as of yet. I am assuming that Chrysler will allow the mircropod to be used as the legacy app pass through? Will keep you all posted if I figure anything out.

Great Information, I have always just done a hot swap. This is safer. Now we need a way to remove SKIM from used PCMs when the vehicle getting the replacement does not have SKIM. There is a function in the J2534 toolbox but I have never got it to work to remove SKIM only reset it.

Micheal, have you followed though with the SRI reset after Skim Reset, Vin Rewrite procedures in J2534 toolbox? I was pleasantly surprised when I was able to get a non skim vehicle to work with a used PCM with SKIM recently. Just resetting skim and writing vin would not allow the vehicle to start and run, I tried a few times no luck then did the SRI reset after the Skim and VIN procedures and…

Clinton, Yes, these can be done. Some will give a tampering code after the process. The code does not set a CEL but does show up in scan. Really only a problem when going in for warrantee work. I can do it for you, All I would need is the original and donor ECU. There would need to be communication to make it work. You can contact me at ….
