Cruise Control Inop

Good morning, I have a problem on a cruise control on a Camry 2005 v6 it started after a rear brake job which caused an abs problem with my scanner. I reset the sensors and that solved the problem of abs then the cruise control stopped working. I follow the diagnostic chart according to mitchell and everything is good.

Is it possible we need a reprograming?

Hi Francois, I wouldn't suspect any programming is needed. Are DTCs stored in any module? The ECM controls cruise control operation. There is a lot PID data available in the ECM that might point you in the right direction (cruise control switches, brake apply, VSS, etc).

Just curious as to what kind of abs problem was caused from doing rear brakes and how do you reset sensors?

Never heard of resetting sensors. As far as inop cruise, did you know for a fact it didn't work prior to your service? Easy as pie to check the cruise data with a decent scan tool. The Toyotas I have repaired for the cruise have either been the cruise switch or the clockspring. Go to the cruise data on the scan tool, it probably only uses a single wire signal line, they simply vary the resistors…

No chance. You need a scanner to check PCM PIDs related to cruise inputs, including the brake switch. I believe there are two switch circuits in the brake switch, so if that is true on your Camry, make sure both are working. Also, any electronic throttle related codes need to be addressed first.

Never seen cruise control needing to be reprogrammed after a brake job. I agree with some of the other responses - make sure there are no codes stored especially for brake or ABS. Any related codes will prevent the cruise control from being able to be activated.

Francois, I know you're working on a Toyota, but for what it's worth, a bad oxygen sensor will disable the cruise control on many of the older Hondas. Honda designed their software that way to force owners to fix emissions-related failures…

Francois, Look real closely at the brake light switch, I believe this vehicle has a two part brake light switch that fails with intermittent high resistance. The brake lights will work fine but the switch for the cruise control has too much resistance and the cruise control won't work. Eric

it is really the ecm which does not give any power to the cruse control all the wires have been checked all are good then I deduce that it is the problem and the customer does not invest more money in this problem
