Mitsubishi j2534 programming still down?

Jeff Owner/Technician Arizona Posted   Latest   Edited

Last year I was called in to program a Mitsubishi Outlander and was confronted with this message:

Due to technical issues, the system for CAN reprogramming data acquisition is currently not available. Please check back again at a later time. We apologize for any inconvenience. mitsubishitechinfo.com/epacarb [mitsubishitechinfo.com]

Of course, this was after I paid for a subscription and made several unsuccessful attempts at getting the vehicle to be identified for a calibration update using their software (it connects and identifies the vehicle just fine). I've use their software many times in the past and never had difficulty. Of course, they didn't refund my subscription.

Here we are today and that message is still up front on their site. For shitz and giggles, I bought a subscription anyway, but no dice. I cannot program Mitsubishi vehicles.

Does anybody have any idea what's going on? Emailing Mitsubishi was to no avail.

Jeff, We have made several attempts to contact our designated people at Mitsubishi. We also have had no response. We have a plan that was presented to our Board and approved. I plan to get some of these disengaged automaker compliance people re-engaged with it. More details on NASTF.org after September 20th. Please send the subscription receipt to my attention at …

Just a casual question Donny. This has been going on since 2020, and NASTF has not been able to accomplish ANYTHING? That's an honest question; I don't program Mitsubishi vehicles and wouldn't even be interested in taking the job if asked, but I'm kind of concerned that such a situation could continue for so many months with zero progress from the only voice with which we have to address issues…

Phil, Just watch the next month. It has taken a long time to lay the groundwork for what we have planned but things are all in place now. Please keep in mind that NASTF is a volunteer organization. Our agreements with automakers are mostly voluntary. Most who helped found NASTF on the automaker side are retired. We needed to remind every agency and automaker that there are industry agreements…

Thanks for the update, Donny. I know myself that when it came time to follow through with a problem, it was simply easier to reject the vehicle and move on. I'm part of the problem on that end. I had a VW Routan (I think that was it; its a Chrysler mini-van poorly disguised as a VW) where VW refused to give out a SKIM code to anyone, including the vehicle owner. I shipped it with a P0633…

This is all very enlightening and thank you for all your efforts. However, what can I do for my customer right now? “Kicking it” is really not an option for me. I'm generally my customers last hope. It would not be good for my business model if I were known for saying “yeah, I can't fix that” and walking away. (BTW - you get the SKIM PIN for that Routan from Chrysler, not VW.)

Jeff, I contacted both EPA and CARB to see if they had different contacts than mine. I will send you a message the minute I get any kind of response from them. Also, before Kurt at VW retired he did put the Routan in their system so it “Should” appear but as you say Stellantis is the path of least resistance for the CaraTan.

Most excellent. Right now, the workaround is a cobbled together hack of the older flashing system and a library of calibration files that I acquired couple years ago when their online system still worked. Unfortunately, for anything built after 2017 or so, that's not going to work. Fortunately, I don't see much Mitsubishi so it isn't a huge issue for me, it's just not satisfying to have to…

I received a reply from Max Sweet at Mitsubishi. I am going to send him your way because I will be in the air or a car most of tomorrow. (Monday 9/13).

Maybe slightly off topic but I wanted to chime in and say I appreciate all the effort being put forth by others and you especially in getting things rolling and back into compliance. I was part of the original government “OE Website Audit” when they were first rolling it out and it was mostly a fiasco back then. It's really nice to have a liaison to speak for us. Thanks so much.

Matthew, Thank you. As the process and information evolves it seems like the problems do as well. Most automakers are very easy to work with so that helps a lot. It is my pleasure to assist, most of the time ;) you are very welcome

As of today (9.21.2021), there's still no resolution and I have not heard from anybody at Mitsubishi about the possibility of there being a resolution. For now, I continue to tell customers that Mitsubishi simply isn't programmable.

I gave them your information and they assured me that they would contact you. What I am unsure of exactly is if their repair is deployed yet. Let me see if I can get a response to that today. We had some back and forth on them validating all their connections to SDRM with their new software but I do not know how or if that affects the rest of the release. Our automaker support person is working…

No one has contacted me and I haven't had to try programming anything by Mitsubishi since. However, the warning is gone from their website, so perhaps they fixed the problem. When I try to sign in, it does offer me a subscription option.
