Thanks for sharing Doug. I have a Modis Edge currently not up to date. I wonder if and when you're logged in to FCA through your snap on device, would it give you complete access just as if you were using a Micro-Pod. I'm not sure how it works but, it would be interesting to find out. Last I checked an update for my modis was anywhere from … I was looking up the price of a MicroPod…

Believe we will still be limited to snapon software , but gain access to secured gateway . With just software through the online access . When we have access , guess we will find out . When 19.4 comes out , hoping snapon post some incite on these capabilities soon . But suspect the normal functions . Bidirectional testing and such . I don’t suspect any kind of module updating capabilities , to…

I believe this will be the future of aftermarket scan tools. Our “connected” tools will communicate with the OEM’s server via an authorized aftermarket server at some added cost or authentication. We will likely have imbedded functionality limitations based on the OEMs policies and the user’s credentials.

I was told FCA will not be offering this deal to autel. But this info I’d come from Snap On

This is not directed at you Doug. Just speaking from a general standpoint. I personally do not understand the big deal about this whole Secure Gateway module thing. My Modis Ultra and my big Launch pad don't even have the correct protocol to connect to the vehicle at all. I can't even ID the vehicle, let alone clear codes obviously. I know I'm not the only one with this issue. I don't know if…

Excellent perspective Caleb! Its worth revisiting old standards once in awhile for sure! What once was true yesterday isnt particularly true today and even less likely to be true tomorrow as far as the automotive repair world goes

Great points Caleb, I agree with you. Ive heard of limitations with using a Cardaq when programming modules and such. I’ve never used a Cardaq. Been interested In getting one. Have you ran into issues using it? Thanks in advanced.

Hey Angel, so my Cardaq is the Plus 3 which is the newest one that I'm aware of. There may be a newer one but I don't think so. I've used it with Witech on 2018 and newer to clear codes. I also ran a couple actuations on the 2018 while I was in there, cooling fan, A/C compressor etc. Worked beautiful. I work for a big GM store. I do lots of programming of various modules. I use it on brand new…

Caleb thank you for your insight. We have an idis but I would like to get something for me personally. We have a few Asians in our fleet but it’s mostly domestics. Soon I will be investing in one. the Cardaq 3 almost the price of my Modis update. & I’m sure I will do a whole lot more with it than the snappy ever could.

Angel, If you're wanting to get the proper Car-Daq check with AESwave.com by actually giving them a call and discussing it with them. They'll have insight into helping you choose something for what you need. IF you do only one brand vehicle they have the Mongoose Pro as well which is made for certain models. The guys at AES are also a sponsor here on diag.net . I've…

Thank you Dale for your input and advice. Within our fleet we currently work on mainly domestics with a few asian vehicles. I would love to get into programming/expanding my capabilities. I know Keith Perkins has put together an 8 hour programming class that's on my list of future purchases. As far as manufacturers using secure gateways and the likes I can definitely see other manufacturers…

Post on this diagnetwork site of chrysler 2019 model enabling security , once sgw took off line . Sam Brooks I belive posted , required witech to clear the event . Just another angle I guess Chrysler deploying to counter undesired connections . Just a heads up , as if autel makes in on board the site don't have answer . Have a launch product by matco , questioning its chances for approval …

I cant remember if it was in a motorage article, DN or on a FB group. But I read of a guy frying an AC module thinking it was the hookup for gateway module. I wish I could remember where I read it at but unfortunately I didn't bookmark it. Service information can be wrong sometimes and locating/accessing the gateway module I'm sure can and will be a pain to say the least. I know It's an…
