Service Fast Learn Adapts Procedure

Afternoon,

Installed new 6L80E. Programming went well. Service procedure says...Note: The Service Fast Learn Adapts procedure must be performed when one of the following repairs have been made to the vehicle. Failure to perform the procedure after one of the following repairs may result in poor transmission performance, as well as transmission DTCs being set:

I am unable to find this in SPS or snap on scan tool. I am assuming I can pay for a couple day of GDS but before I do....does this procedure need to be done or can I just test drive?

You will be fine. Transmission computer will relearn on his own, but just take longer to adapt. Im surprised that is not on the Snapon tool. maybe you are not going in the right window on your tool.

all my aftermarket scan tools have the fast learn function, but like Oscar said it will learn on its own. Have to put about 30-60 miles on it but it will learn

Nothing to worry about on the 6L80 only TAPS reset and oil life reset available for this TCM. TAPS not needed if trans is new, do check oil life as about 1 out of 10 do not go to 100%, so be sure that it is at 100% or you customer may wonder why you did not put new fluid in when it prematurely gets to zero%.

Taps is "adaptive". As already said, it will learn on its own, just takes longer. Excellent point to reset fluid monitor.

The procedure is in sps under the transmission setup and configuration, but not for the 6 speed. It is recommended the the service is performed for optimal performance. This is the equivalent to replacing a (diesel) fuel injector without programming the flow rate. It sets the initial starting point for adaptive learn without it the tcm has the incorrect “base point” and will always be off the…

How to Adapt Your Transmission Transmission adapts can be reset and relearned on most vehicles through GDS 2 by using the Transmission Service Fast Learn procedure. This procedure is completed in the service stall and no vehicle driving is required. To complete the Transmission Service Fast Learn procedure, enter GDS 2 Diagnosis and navigate to: - Module diagnostics - Transmission Control…

Depending on the year and specific transmission there may not be the fast adapt procedure. In my experience with the GDS2 vehicles if the transmission set up procedure is not listed is SPS as a option it will not be available in GDS2 or on a AM scan tool either. All along the way SPS will tell you about it on the WCC screen, the transmission remanufacture will send literature demanding it be…

Those that replied thank you. I did reset TAPS and oil quality percentage but never found in an AM scan tool the ability to perform the "Service Fast Learn Adapts Procedure". Transmission shifts great, no problems. Seems this procedure is for the Allison transmission, and not necessary for the 6L80e. Incorrectly listed in the service information.

Mark, they do have "Fast Adapts" or "Quick Learn" for some of the transverse mounted 6 speeds and the early 6L80/6L90s but they removed it from the later ones because if you lost communication with the scan tool (ie bump the connector while driving) the transmission would go to neutral and stay there unless it was re-flashed. I am glad those are gone!
