2012 Nissan Versa 1.6 SV 1.6L (HR16DE) — 3N1CN7AP1CL908955
U1000 — Manufacturer Controlled DTC
Crank / No Start

1st post. I've been lurking, reading, learning around here. Now I need some help!

U1000 - Lost communication with ECM/PCM A stored in other modules on CAN.

Vehicle came in with a crank/no start condition. No communication with ECM on the Network. All other modules communicate. Checked power/ground to ECM, good. Checked CAN lines to and from ECM connected and disconnected. Good. Scoped for waveforms to A/F, TPS. None. Tested for spark, injector pulse. none. Replaced ECM.

Now I have communication, I have outputs from ECM, CMP/CKP patterns look correct while cranking. Have spark output and fuel pressure to the rail is within spec. Will run on alternative fuel, and engine sounds good. No injector pulse. Scoped for pulse at ECM and get erratic pulse from time to time. Added redundant grounds to battery, chassis, engine. This vehicle does not have Intelligent key.

This car has been here too long and maybe I'm running off track with it, or overthinking. Am I missing something?

Is it a chip key? Also, are the CAN codes current or past codes?

It is not a chip key, No transmitter or receiver frequencies. No red light (security), not little car or key icon. CAN codes were past codes, and no longer in the system. No codes at all after ECM replacement.

Are there any codes in transmission? Was the positive battery terminal cracked and not tight? i had a Sentra do this one time. So, for giggles, disconnect any CU on the CAN network one at a time. The only thing you cannot disconnect is the ECM and IPDM/ER. See if it starts after each disconnect. If it does, that CU is the problem and creating back feed through the system. Crazy as it sounds I…

When you turn the ignition to the on position KOEO is there a red light in the shape of a car? Or a red led somewhere on the dashboard next to “security” written in white? If so the vehicle can be equipped with NATS Nissan anti theft system and the chip in the key needs to be registered to the ecm

If we’re shot gunning and your timing is ok. Intake timing around 0 while cranking and you already checked fuel etc. the one thing I would say to check is the ground under the intake manifold.

Intake and Exhaust timing around zero while cranking, CMP/CKP patterns look great. I'll check that ground. I have already cleaned the others that I could see.

Yes, CMP/CKP look good. I have ran it on alternative fuel through the intake boot and the engine sounds good running, Timing looked good as well.

Had similar situation on 2013 Nissan Sentra, Injectors wasn't getting a 12 volts. Left fender harness damage power joint for injectors.

I had a no start at times on 2010 Versa, I found a corroded fuel pump pin at pump. I know it’s probably not related to your original problem, but sometimes other problems appear when correcting one problem.

The corrosion problem is also an older issue that is returning as newer models age

Can you post a shot of the erratic injector driver pattern? Does the pattern change if you leave all the coils disconnected?

Hi all! Thought I would follow up on this no start Versa. It would seem as though Nissan in our area was sending us the wrong refurb modules. We received 3 ECM's and had RAP program them all with no love. After a long conversation with Nissan and arguing that the part number of the ECM's they were sending did not cross to the part number that our FAST program had, they finally sent out a pre…
