Ford F150 PCM no Comm
Trying to connect to this Fords computer with no success. There is power to the PCM and DLC and the truck runs ok with some issues and I need to connect. The ABS module has no com either. Only the SRS module showed on a system scan, but that's it. The customer said that there was a P0304 code that was retrieved prior to my checking and I tried 3 different Scan Tools with no success.
Any suggestions on where to proceed on this Ford would be very helpful, thanks Doug.
Doug, make sure you have network voltage at pins 6 and 14 of the DLC. Also make sure your DLC pins aren't worn out, I've been bit by corroded or loose pins before.
Check pin fitment at the DLC. If they arent tight enough, the pins won't make proper connection for the scan tool. I had this issue on a bmw recently. Does the check engine light work as should?
Hi Steve, meant to replay earlier. Don't remember but am going to the truck today and will update later. Thanks!!
Hi Steve, I don't remember about the light but am going to the truck today and will update later. Thank you!!
Had a problem with Ford trucks it turned out my scanner cable was bad.Funny it worked on almost everything else?
SRS module is on a different bus. The High Speed bus is where you need to go. Only the IP, the ABS, and the PCM are on the affected bus. Check across pins 14/6 resistance, should be 60 ohms. And ,as others stated, check fitment.
It's on a different bus but it should still show up on a system scan correct? Or am I thinking of a different bus DLC pin?? Still learning. Thank you!
That may be a scan tool thing. I use a Ford tool, and it knows what is on the bus. I've had AM scanners that would not read the Suspension systems, and ISO communications were hit or miss.
Thanks guys I will do that when i get back to the truck! This vehicle is in another town and the owner has limited funds at this time! (That is the difficulty with mobile auto work at times. You end up spending much more time than it should have taken and not a lot of $$ available. I have to remember to be more careful when I give an estimate on work asked to do!!) So I told him when he gets the…
Might be late to the party, I have an 07 F150 and at times getting full network communication was spotty, I was using a Bluetooth ELM327 adapter that had a MS / HS switch, I ended up buying an ELS27 cloned cable that performed the MS /HS switching automatically, or rather bilaterally and I was able to communicate with the full network. Both FORScan and IDS (temp subscription) reported that the…
Well I finally got back to this vehicle yesterday and found it was pin 6 that was causing the network com failure. The truck had a bad #4 coil and was replaced but still had a little stumble under power but after clearing the codes it ran great. Thank you again for the helpful informative replies!
