TIS 2000 and J2534
Given the new difficulties with SPS2, I rehabilitated an XP Pro machine and got an official version of TIS 2000 running.
Someone replied to me on a similar discussion a few weeks ago regarding configuration changes to the PC in order to run a Jbox on pass-thru. I have a Cardaq+ that I’d like to use but I’d need some “PC Dummy” instructions on adjusting the pass-thru settings. It’d be nice to set pass-thru to a USB port and my Cardaq if possible.
When I selected “Pass-Thru” in the TIS I/O section, I got to this dialog box and had no clue what to do.
Thanks and Happy Trails
1. Go to the configuration drop-down menu and select “IO Management” 2. On the IO Management screen, press DRIVER to add J2534 support to TIS2000. In the INSTALL DRIVER menu, browse to C:\Program Files\cosids\bin\j2534.dll then hit install 3. On the IO Management screen, click ADD to add the new interface. 4. Type for the LOGICAL NAME type (Generic Pass Thru) typed the LOGICAL NAME exactly…
Scott, I had to put tis2000 on windows 7 32bit virtual machine to get my mdi2 to work with it. I think it had more to do with mdi manager not being able to run on xp. But it has been working fine for me.
Yeah - it'll work with any 4.04 compliant j2534 device as long as you can get the drivers loaded. On an XP machine, that will require wrangling the driver signing.
Thanks Jeff, I’ve successfully done the configuration following your instructions. For anyone following along, I had the Drew Toolbox already loaded on this machine so (I assume) the Cardaq+ drivers already existed. I haven’t tried it yet but I’m curious about how I should connect the J-box. 🤔 I normally use it via USB cable but it has an Ethernet socket also. TIS 2000 uses COM 1 (serial…
Howdy. I am. I followed Jeff Abrams instructions and got it configured successfully but haven’t tried it yet.
Hi Jeff, 6. On the IO Management screen select "Generic Pass Thru", then click PROPERTIES 7. Choose your J2534 device. You've piqued my curiosity. So I've gotten to step 7 and the box is blank. When I attach the MDI to the VM it shows up as RNDIS/Ethernet Gadget and the correct drivers are not installed. What's this wrangling of the driver signing you spoke of down below?
I’m by no means an PC guru but my guess is that you need the drivers for your device previously loaded on the PC.
Yes - as Rusty points out, you have to have the MDI drivers loaded. These are the most current that I use: dropbox.com/s/h30kqpvx8v25…
Hi Jeff, Yeah, I tried to load this prior to posting. I might need an earlier version of this software as it won't install on my XP machine. diag.net/file/f39z2sur3…
You have to install Microsoft Visual C++ v14.29.3 first. You should also be on XP SP1.
Couple of years back I tried the cardaq m and couldn't get it to work, called Drew tech and they told me there was no drivers for xp for any of their products. LIke I said it was a couple of years ago , wonder if anyone found a work around.
I am most certain that I used to use a Cardaq Plus device with the TIS2000 years ago. Of course you can use the Tech2 in passthru mode or remote mode as well. Old school…, old tools
I installed the autel maxiflash driver ( from cd) and it's the one I use besides the tech 2
If you get it figured out please post the steps you took. I tried for awhile but was never able to get a cardaq2+ working with tis2000.
I literally spelled it out step by step just a few posts up. This works for ALL 4.04 compliant J2534 devices.
I dont doubt your input on setting up tis2000, I think its a driver problem with drewtech.
I successfully connected to my 05 Suburban, pulled the VIN, and the available modules showed up. Looks like I’m good to go with the old Cardaq+ Thanks again for your guidance
I figured I‘d ask a related question here rather than initiating a new thread: A local GM dealer is struggling with theft learn after replacing an ECM in a 2008 SRX. They claim that it’s an SPS2 issue and that they aren’t able to access SPS1. I’m waiting for the last update discs for my TIS2000 (I’m @ August 2006) to arrive from a friend. My question is: Will that update allow me to flash that…
Note : The last TIS disc came out late 2007, some 2008 vehicles are on it but not all. Just an FYI
