Transmission Slipping
Programming Fails

Hello Diag.Net I am hoping for some guidance on this Fiat. This is my first time dealing with one of these Dual Dry Clutch Automatically Shifted Manual Transmissions. The vehicle was towed into us with the following complaint.

“Client states this vehicle was stolen back in August & used for some crimes. Since being stolen the vehicle has had a CEL present, it struggles very hard to get up to speed & sometimes will not take off from a stop. Shifting to neutral or re-starting car seems to help this. There is also a clear brown fluid leak present near the front of the vehicle.”

The battery was dead when it got to us, but we did not see any signs of the vehicle being abused or used for crimes! After charging the battery and trying to drive the vehicle we got two codes in the TCM, P1CCE Hydraulic Pump Driver Feedback and P1CC0 Hydraulic Pump Stuck Off. The fluid leak was hydraulic clutch fluid from a plastic hose and fitting at the valve body (the battery tray drain tube routes right onto the valve body and damaged the connectors and the plastic hose). We ordered and replaced the valve body assembly. We cleared all data groups and actuators, performed the hydraulic circuit bleed, quick learn and clutch contact point relearn with wiTECH. All of the relearns completed correctly and there are no codes in the TCM, but the vehicle hardly moves and feels like the trans. is slipping.

I did note there are module updates for the BCM and ICM which both reference Improved Transmission Performance. The ICM programmed correctly, but the BCM fails as soon as it starts to download the flash file with a U0426 MINIKRYPT Error.

My main questions are:

1.) Are there any manual bleed procedures or other resets that we missed for this trans, or could the clutch just be shot also?

2.) Any suggestions on getting the BCM to program? I am not sure it is going to help the slipping issue, but I would like to get the BCM, ICM and TCM at the same programming level. I have verified the Proxy Alignment is good for all modules.

Thanks in advance…

I have attached a Snap-On data file for the trans. data. I'm not sure if that helps or not. What should I be looking for with the K1 data?

So the software updates are for “Uneven acceleration feeling”. The reason the BCM gets an software update for this is because a direct connection from the body control module supplies a wake-up message to the TCM, so the transmission can activate the pump to build pressure before take-off, if required. But I do not like how your BCM is returning a minikrypt error. I remember getting a similar…

Thank you for the info. Yes, we have the independent shop version of wiTECH with a MicroPod II. I only have one key for the vehicle and it is a Fiat key. I will try what you suggested for leaving the key on, ect. and then try to program again. I also noted that there is a light flashing on the Door Lock button anytime the ignition is on. I am not sure what the flashing light means, maybe the…

The flashing light is a transport mode setting, so they don't lock the keys in the car. When the vehicle gets delivered to the Dealer and PDI'd they are supposed to go into the BCM and run the um… “Lock Configuration” test I think it is called, it should be listed under the MISC tab of the BCM. It has probably been blinking since they bought the car.

If you smell around the transmission bellhousing area. Can you smell a burnt clutch smell. I have not done Fiat one before, But have done several of them in the Ford cars.

I am going to mark this Resolved even though we will not be replacing the clutch. The owner of vehicle is trying to get her insurance to pay for the repairs because the vehicle was “stolen”, and it looks like the insurance company is going to total the vehicle. It only has 23K miles on it. I do believe the clutch is toast. We pulled the starter motor and there is a lot dust/ash on the starter…

Sorry for the late reply, I couldn’t see the info update. I can’t see the snap on data, but according my experience with C635 ddct , I am looking for K1 clutch closed self adjusting position, normal car is around 11-9.3mm, and if lower than 9, the K1 is closed to the life, if data show 7.8 something, the K1 Shaft or the K1 release bearing broken.I am glad you figured out the problem, replacing…

Thank you for the data! I will check the numbers on this vehicle before it gets towed out.
