Will Not Run

Hi everyone,

I installed a used pcm on a 2011 Chrysler 300 3.6 V6. I used Witech2.0 with my snap on passthrupro 4. I left the original pcm plugged in until i got to the point of flashing the pcm I then plugged in the used pcm and hit the flash pcm button.

It showed progress with the flash then got to 100 percent done then showed lost communication with device? At this point i could not switch the ignition button off I had to unhook the battery. I had to re-login to Witech, now the used pcm is not showing the original vin it's showing the used pcm vin.

I then tried the restore vehicle configureation and it still shows the used pcm vin# .At this point I put the original pcm back in and the vehicle info still shows the used pcm#. The car will not crank or run. At this point I need all the help I can get, I don't know where to go next with this.

There is a good chance there is a security mismatch with the VIN stored on the used PCM and the vehicle itself. Have you tried the help line? Which J-box and pass thru are you using?

I hate to ask… I'm sure you are good here, what is the state of charge for the battery and are you supporting it with a quality charger with flash support? I have had this kind of thing happen with a weak 12v.

Hi Brian l am using a snap on passthrupro 4 . I have a battery maintainer shows about 12.8 v while flashing. When I look at the pcm data it show correct original pcm vin#. And it also shows the current pcm vin# is the used pcm vin # the one from the junk vehicle

Have you looked at current and original vin for each module? Is The original VIN in any module corrupted? When you put the original PCM back in were you able to rewrite the VIN to the proper VIN?

Matthew, the bcm and abs report vin mismatch codes but when I look at the data they both show original and current are are original to the vehicle

So the issue now, is that when the Original PCM (A) is placed in the vehicle, it shows the VIN for the replacement PCM (B) correct? I assume you tried a VIN write on PCM A after you reinstalled it and it wouldn't take? Hence the VIN mismatch codes now? My understanding is that the restore vehicle configuration makes it so even if the original VIN and Current VIN are different, it accepts the…

It sounds silly since you're using Witech2.0 but have you tried any aftermarket scan tools for writing the vin back into module A? I did some digging around and found another thread from DN on this topic that might answer all your questions. diag.net/msg/m3kn0g2ofr…

I have a Autel scan tool. I’ll plug it in and see if it will do the vin

Ive always been told you cant rewrite the vin on these so I have never even tried. But if you can what is the reason for replacement? Maybe what ever caused issue on old pcm is causing your problem

Many people do the hot swap as you did… I do it sometimes…. majority of time, I change the VIN with an aftermarket scan tool (Autel)l and then I do the security handshake with the same tool by letting my Autel know that I replaced the PCM when I am under the IMMO functions…If the PCM came from the same type of vehicle and roughly the same year, most often you can change the VIN, do the…

you Don’t need to program the pcm .. just the skim code … and go to the WCM module with the wire h then special function youll see PCM replaced ..do that and it will ask you the 4 digit skim code ..and it will automatically ch…e the vin ps. You don’t need a witch to do this ..autel will do the same job

This does not use a WCM it has a radio frequency hub. I just now used my Autel scanner to change the vin # . It starts now but i have dash lights on that were not on before. the bcm has a vin mismatch code and a not configured code? it shows the bcm has original and current vin # correct for the car. Any ideas ?

Now that you have the Vin correct on the PCM. Do a restore vehicle configuration and see if that doesn't clear everything up.

You should see Original VIN and Current VIN. Once the PCM has been programmed when they are brand new, or refurbished, both Original and Current VIN will be the same. However, when using a used module, the Original VIN data is no longer relevant. Only the "Current VIN", the VIN of the car you are installing it into, matters. So as long as the Current VIN shows the car's VIN you are putting it…

Thanks Mike, you got the right information. I still don't understand why the original pcm took the used pcm vin# as current vin# ?

Yeah really weird! I have never done that hot swap procedure you did, but I guess things can get messed up. Well, it is good you are sorted out now.

I might be a little late with my advice, but honesty, all you should have done is change the vin on the used pcm with the one in the car, then go to WCM reset the module. If the module is the same as the one you have, all will work just fine.

Well, I've done several Chrysler used Pcm's and with little or no troubles, but those all had Wcm's this 2011 300 had a RFH no Wcm. So it took help from this great Forum to get the car running and configuration correct.
