Crankshaft Waveform
Hey guys. Just rebuilt the engine. Have a p0336 crankshaft position sensor out of range. Pretty sure reluctor on flywheel is bent. Before i fix it, wanted to find out if anyone has a known good crank waveform?
Waiting on crank sensor and sensor housing. Will update if thats a fix.
2016 Volvo S60 T5 2.5 cmp, ckp, CH C is COP1, CH D is a WPS in cyl 1
The COP is Coil On Plug and the WPS is the in cylinder pressure transducer WPS500
Hey Ray, i tried looking at the patern of the crank sensor the other day and got a signal that looked like a hall effect, however the readings were all in negative voltage. I am a real novice at the scope. It is a three wire sensor, w/it unplugged i have 5 volts on 2 wires, and the other had zero. Is it necessary to have the negative probe of the scope inserted into the sensor connector along…
You're right, the 3 wire ckp sensor is a Hall Effect. Connect the negative probe of the scope to the negative battery terminal and the other probe to the sensor's signal wire. The battery negative clamp usually has some corrosion buildup on it and then the scope will show weird waveforms. Use a heavy steel brush and scrape the corrosion from the battery clamp. Connect your scope to a good…
I think that must be the problem, i chose the ckp presettings provided by pico, and chose the inductive type ckp sensor, instead of the hall effect type. Could that be why I was seeing only a negative part of the waveform?
Yes, the Automotive presets has the channel AC coupled for inductive type sensors. The channel needs DC coupling for Hall Effect sensors.
Thanks for clearing it up Ray. Crossed fingers that this is just a bad sensor. However with the sensor unplugged i have an extended crank. With it plugged it starts right up, but has a miss at idle, no miss at higher rpms in park. Falls on its face under hard acceleration in drive.
With the sensor unplugged, you mean the cmp sensor? After you clear the P0336 with the ckp sensor connected, does the P0336 reset on restart? Do you have any misfire codes. Does your scan data show you which cylinder is misfiring. What are the FTs at idle and at the higher rpms.
No the crank sensor was unplugged. With it unplugged, the car would start, but had a noticeable extended crank. The P0336 comes back on after two ignition cycles(start attempts). I'll have to look at that other data tomorrow. Dont think my pocket OTC scan tool will show cylinder misfires? Only code is the P0336.
Hey Ray, just testing my crank signal. I noticed with the signal filtered my voltage is only being pulled down to 4 volts? Unfiltered it gets pulled down close to zero. Any explanation for this. There is only one big wondow(3")on this flyweel the rest are spread approximately ½" apart.
Hi Joseph, don't use any filtering. Can you post your captures or take some pictures of the waveform captures and post them here.
Ray I wanted to capture the cams as well on the same scree with the crank, however we only have a 2 channel scope and the 2nd lead was also not working. So i could only capture them individually. Could i send u them via email.
