Good shop in Las Vegas?
A friend in Las Vegas called about his Altima. A quote from the shop he took it to suggests that replacing both a CKP and an input speed sensor will fix his car. Even though the $950 quote seemed quite fair, I can’t help but suspect that a fairly large parts cannon is being loaded in Sin City. I am about a thousand miles away so I am asking for some help. If you work at or know of a shop where they test, not guess - please let me know. Thanks!
Any more specific information? Very possible it needs them. Nothing in your post alludes to problem. Maybe this is based on solid testing, who knows?
Thanks Eric, the estimate includes two codes. P0725 engine speed sensor circuit and P0335 CKP A circuit. No other testing was done, just a swap based on codes. My friend wants to fix his car but doesn’t want to proceed without test data. I‘ll admit I encouraged him to get a second opinion, but I am not able to recommend a shop.
Franks European is the best Euro shop in Vegas but I doubt they would take on a Nissan. I used to call on Sunset Auto on Boulder Highway a few years ago. It was a well run operation. Maybe check them out.
Thanks Michael. I met Frank during a shop tour last year with Carm Capriotto. You’re right, Frank and his crew are top notch. I’ll check into Sunset Auto.
Might be me but a p0725 is a engine speed signal from the ecm to the tcm, kinda hard to have that with a bad crank sensor
Actually I'd expect to see it there. If the CKP fails the engine speed signal from the PCM to the TCM gets interrupted. We see this quite often and virtually every time correcting the P0335 (CKP sensor or wiring) eliminates the P0725 as well.
Sorry To much lurking and not enough practicing typing responses. I meant without the crank signal there would be no engine speed signal to the tcm ;-)
Precisely 2 seconds after I posted my response to you it dawned on me exactly what you meant. What I had read and what you wrote were two different things. Gotta stop flat rating posts at lunch;-) Regards,
Top Car Service, 980 Nellis Blvd, unit D, … has great reviews. They bought an i Scan 3 and laptop from me back in April. Don't really know much more than that.
