Paccar def tank level/temp/quality sensor shortage
Hello everyone,
Seems like theres a nation wide shortage for these sensors, we talked to the parts guy at kenworth few days ago, he said there're around 35000 trucks waiting for this part.
Did anyone figure out a way to repair/bypass these sensors? We have 5 trucks in our shop now for the same problem, and dealer said no ETA for the part.
our ticket writer talked to a lady at the parts department today, she told us to try soak the sensor in water overnight, i guess few shops did that and actually fixed the sensor. she said it was due to def crystallization.
PACCAR is going to do a partial DEF delete to get trucks running. There is a TSB on it. I have a LinkedIn post with more details and screenshots, plus you can read the comments from some of the dealers that responded. International Trucks just announced the same thing today. This isn't just PACCAR. Its a long link, but should work: linkedin.com/feed/update/ur…
I was actually wondering about this today at the shop. We have a few trucks down at the dealer under warranty for them, we were told 8-10 weeks lead. In our case the FMI for all three (codes) were for abnormal update rate and they were intermittent so I assume it has to be a data/comm issue but it was relayed to me by my management it was due to “poor maintenance”. As far as soaking in water…
Bilin Excellent question and the following posts help. Recently, I had a service call and diagnosed a failed set of sensors in the DEF tank on a 2018 KW with Paccar. Wasn't sure whether the dealership was “pulling my leg” on availability. After reading other posts in this thread seems like there is a documented problem.
