Forced Engine Idle/Limited Speed
We have a customer that drove to toronto and "service def system" came on in the instrument cluster with a mileage count down until forced idle/limited speed. He stopped at hinton dodge/chrysler dealer to have it diagnosed.
Tech notes from the dealer: scr catalyst failed scanned vehcile, found p2ba9 nox exceedence - insufficient reductant quality removed def injector and performed dosing injector quantity test, sprayed 25 ml, ok checked quality of def, 32.5%, ok requires scr catalyst
they handed him a written estimate, with part numbers ordered all the parts and installed them, I reset the scr using witech2.0 and then attempted the "healing process" as per the service information
after performing the forced regeneration, it tripped a new code p244a-00-diesel particulate filter differential pressure too low I located the differential pressure sensor and inspected the rubber hoses that go to it found a split/rotten hose, repaired that and ran the forced regeneration again this time no more codes set the "service def system" at this point is still on in the instrument cluster with a mileage count down until forced idle/limited speed attempted the "healing process" again without any success at this point now, there is 29 km left until forced idle/limited speed I noticed there was a function in witech2.0 in misc. Functions to "extend the mileage with scr code active". This allows you mileage to be able to drive the vehicle and attempt the "scr healing process". I decided at that point to just ship it to celebritty chrysler just down the road from us to have them attempt it, because I had enough time into it and I just wanted it done so that my customer could have his vehicle back (it had been down for a couple weeks waiting on parts)
I go to pick it up from celebrity chrysler, paid the 471$ bill and here are the tech notes request "scr healing process" performed "scr healing process, performed dfp regeneration and drove extensively faults still active
scanned vehicle and found p24ae-00 particulate matter sensor circuit - stored spoke with technician and discussed work to still be performed
so I ran through the diagnostic chart for that code, found sensor to be faulty ordered the pm sensor and replaced it I was going to ship it back, but they couldnt look at it until next week, but I decided that I should be able to perform the "healing process" without any issue now that all these faults have been rectified drove it for an hour until the mileage for the forced idle/limited speed was at near zero, and tried to "extend the mielage" using that function in the witech2.0 it would no give me more mileage, the function was not working now at this point, if you shut off the vehicle, it will be in forced idle, and it did, now it set p241d - forced engine shutdown is now permanent and will not clear or reset
this morning I tried a few thing to get it out of forced idle without any success I was going to bring it back to the dealer, but they are super busy and they dont have an opening until next week the only last thing that I was going to try is to reflash the pcm with the same software to see if it clears the p241d and allows me to try and perform the "healing process" again, but unfortunately, the j-box we have is a cardaq 2 plus and this vehicle has a " 3rd can channel" and my cardaq 2 plus does not support that. (Fyi, the software is up to date)
im at the end of my rope, and im trying a knot and hanging on lol
any help would be appreciated
I'm no expert but while reading this I was wondering about a reflash to clear P214D status before you mentioned it, and whether they allow you to reflash the same files again. Is there any other module, say a NOX module or something, which could affect this process? Could a partially restricted catalyst affect regen? I'd think another shop or mobile service could do the reflash faster than…
Try disconnecting the battery and touch cable together for an hour or so, then reconnect and try it. Fault was still active and they handed you a bill? Someone missed a test somewhere, or it was pencil whipped. I also question the DEF measure test being 25ml. this has to be measure with a graduated measure cup. Don't rely on the computer to tell you the measurement. I have had issues with DEF…
It was the first thing I tried this morning, but the battery disconnect did not help. By fault being active, do you mean the PM Sensor code that was tripped while celebrity chrysler was trying to perform the “SCR Healing Process”? The PM code never reset. At this point in the day, I'm shifting my efforts on other vehicles in the shop. I'm waiting on a guy to come try and “Re-Flash” the ECM to…
I usually don't mind a few grammar mistakes, because we all make them, but your post was really hard to read and make sense of. Please consider using periods at the end of your sentences and capitalize the beginning of sentences. I copied and pasted the text into the form, and for some reason it messed up my whole message. I had it all done neatly in a email. I didn't bother proofing it. Sorry about that.
