Rear Hatch Release Inop Via Remote

Good Evening,

I don’t know why the vehicle information won’t populate when I add it.

2016 VW Golf Sportwagen 1.8

The clients complaint is that the rear hatch won’t unlock with either the door lock switch or key fob. The shop has already installed a latch assembly with no change. I scanned the vehicle and no codes were stored. I inspected the hatch wiring harness and all is good. I am able to unlock the hatch with my Autel Elite Scan tool. The other door locks respond to the interior buttons and key fob. When I attempt to open the rear hatch with the fob the taillights flash as they should. I’ve included two pictures of the live data showing the hatch open and hatch closed. As you can see the pre engagement contact switch and main notch contact switch are providing correct feedback. However, the Status of rear lid lock shows released when open but implausible when closed. The pid status displays implausible as soon as the pre engagement switch is engaged.

Any thoughts?

And good evening to you. Welcome to the forum. Lets start out with what kind of vehicle you are working on. Remote function not working? Which one, key fob or interior? You'll have to include what testing you done so far. What scanner type you are using and service information available. Have a great day!

youve qualified that it can work, it just doesnt… wild hair: does the car have a valet mode? It seems odd that a wagon would, but…vw? also wondering about the coding in the vechicle electrical module. If its not right you could certainly be implausable… tough to straighen that out w/o vcds or odis. without vin its hard to get in to the nitty gritty of what equipment it should have. Any chance…

My apologies about not posting the vin, like the make model field it wouldn't populate either. I will confirm the vin in the morning with the shop. I can access coding with my Autel Elite as it's virtually identical in use as the Vag Com I had used previously. I was leaning away from coding as this problem showed up recently out of the blue. If it wasn't working only with the fob, I'd go after…

Does the Dash show the rear hatch is ajar?? Some VAG cars have a sensor in the bottom of the jamb were the latch clamps down on when the gate is shut. If its damaged or misadjuste etc and showing “ajar” the module will not activate the latch.

Thanks for the suggestion, however, the dash display shows open when it's open and it turns off when closed.

Look down where the striker for the rear lid is, under the little door on the sill. Or you can just pull that sill all the way off. There should be 2 micro switches behind the striker. Check them both for sand and dirt. If it is like the AUDI's both micro switches must show closed or you get the implausible message in the data list

Thanks…I'll check that, however, I believe that on the golf the 2 switches are built into the latch assembly.

The designation numbers should still be the same. G525 and G526. You can call your local VW parts and ask if these apply to this vehicle.

Could you please confirm that you specifically followed Charles's advice about checking for micro switches on the striker under the sill trim plate?

ok first this is do u hear the latch disengaging? If u don’t then u have a bad latch Ive worked for VW common issue, also check for water intrusion, and I’m sure u checked for broken wires around the upper right hand corner and left side

Thanks. However, the latch had been replaced by the shop before I had arrived. The latch will release when commanded by my Autel Elite.

I second the micro switch under the striker. normally you can tell if that’s the problem because the tail lights on the liftgate do not operate when it is open.

The client returned the car yesterday and I had another look. I have included pictures of the rear hatch lock pin, for those that asked there aren't any micro switches under the trim. I attached a few pictures. I decided to ignore the ‘latch Implausible’ pid and head in a different direction. I ended finding that the release handle tested ok with an ohmeter but failed to complete the circuit…
