Ball joint separator- hydraulic

Stephen Owner/Technician California Posted   Latest

The press bolt threads blew out on my separator. I forgot about this type in the link. Just wondered if anyone likes them and how they hold up.

I use one similar to that one all the time and works great. Mine is OTC so the Great Neck version is a cheaper copy of it but should work ok.

I’ve used the OEM tool. Works great for the Hondas where ball joint is in knuckle. But to be honest most other cars I’m swinging a hammer.

I use this one. It’s a little spendy, but worth it imo because of the quality and the variety of sizes. I haven’t found a ball joint it won’t fit yet. mueller-kueps.com/product-catalo…

I use similar tools, I have a couple different sizes. They work great when you don't want to damage the boot when disassembling, if I'm replacing the joint then I use a fork and hammer. The one you show is not hydraulic, even though the company says it is. It also seems a little small, looks like it will only work on cars, no trucks, not even the little ones.
