Hello fellow techs. Called in for inoperative park assist after front end collision. Odd thing when I put it in reverse no error message on dash. So ran a scan and no codes but no communication with park assist module(odd but ok).

Look at the diagram and shows with option ud5/ud7. Pull rpo and neither code is on there. Ok …..getting weirder.

So pull off trim panel to check module and lo and behold no module(vehicle has front and rear sensors and park assist on/off button on center console).

Apparently vehicle was programmed at GM without park assist.

This vehicle might be build-shy. A vehicle sold with that option/module to be installed post-sale because the module was unavailable at the time of production. Note also that the QR Code label on the vehicle has limitations. From the linked article “Up to 48 RPO codes may be displayed from the scanned QR code. It does not include all the RPO codes as displayed in the Investigate Vehicle…

Thanks mike. That’s what I figured due to the chip shortage. But man stuff like that will drive you nuts. I know for next time. No codes, no error messages, check for module. I was wondering if you could tell me where/how to find vin search that showed module install pending. Thanks

If, as in this case, you're performing your services for a collision repair shop many collision estimating systems decode VINs to the RPO/option level. An estimator working for that collision repair shop should know how to access that info for you. If the collision repair shop has CollisionLink (and every collision repair shop should, IMHO, for reasons too long to go into here), it does this as…

Hello Gery, This is a direct result of the ongoing chip shortage issues that have plagued many manufacturers. If the RPO code is not there, it does not have the option. Many buyers sign waivers at time of purchase or and install when available form is issued. From what I have been told, when the (after sale) option is installed and programmed, there will be a special label affixed near the RPO…

Hi Michael, A body shop is the last place I would expect to be up to date on TSB's.
