Tick Noise From Engine

You can hear a loud tick noise from the engine that is louder on the right side. It is really quiet in the cab at idle but if you raise the rpms it is obvious. If you roll the window down it sounds really loud. Is this normal for these engines to have a loud tick noise. I know the high pressure fuel pumps are on that side but I don't have another one to compare it to and don't work on these much. Thanks

Hi Ryan, I have seen this before. Also on Audi and Land Rover . Most of the time it is the HPFP causing the noise, especially if the vehicle runs well with no known faults

These have the same engine platform: fordservicecontent.com/Ford_Content/v… (nhtsa.gov)

Apparently NHTSA does not work well with copy and past. Do a search for engine ticking noise for Ford 5.0 Turbo engine.

I don't know why it says it is supercharged up there but this engine is not supercharged.

Hello Ryan, It will still be the same base engine, even without the supercharger option. The basic drivetrain is built by Ford. Search for Ford issues with this engine platform and you may have some luck.
