Volvo programming

Programming
2008 Volvo S40 2.4i 2.4L (B5244S4) 5-spd (AW55-51)

I know that programming on certain vehicles can be a chore. So this question is more about the practicality, rather than feasibility of doing so.

Can I use a Jbox to program a Steering Column Lock module on the above vehicle? Is it an involved process?( I am a regular coder/flasher/programmer,just never on Volvo) so I am familiar with the basics of the process.

You definitely can, generally Volvo is a pain, and unless you have already done some Volvo programming the learning curve is possibly a big pain. Getting the software Vida Installed and activated is a painful multi step process. 3 day minimum subscription for $82.50 plus whatever the programming file costs.

You can but it’s not worth it to the mobile guy to program Volvo IMO. Pain in the *** to setup and get to work. You have to pay for the sub AND the programming file AND put in the time. I found I had to charge double the dealer at least to make it worthwhile. For that they can tow it to the dealer and save money and depending on the dealer get the car washed

Rudy yes you can do it with a Jbox - Volvo can be a bit of a hassle to program sometimes... you will first need to purchase and download the software to set up your computer. Then you have to pay for each re flash file you need ---ya they will bill you additional for the program you can check with your dealer to see how much the program/download will cost you they vary.. Good Luck my least…

With Volvo, if part numbers are the same I highly recommend to clone the MCU. VVDI prog is about a 15 minute job, must open the module and solder wires. Cost of Volvo subscription is very high, might need LSID information.

Well our local dealer want $260+ the cost of the file and it was gonna cost $75 to tow it. I tried Autologic, but they say they cant do it unless we have the Drive Pro tool. So wish me luck fellas, Im holding my nose and jumping in!!

Rudy, here's a tip from someone who just set up and used the software recently. When you go to download the flash file if it doesn't appear to download right away don't keep clicking and don't keep trying to download it, that's what I did and I ended up with 9 pending charges on my credit card. The problem was on Volvo's end and until they fixed it I couldn't download the file. Just a fyi.

I have used vida in the dealer setting and aftermarket daily since it changed over from vadis In 2005. the dealers use dice units to interface with the non spa cars, but the j2534 boxes work identically to the dice. the hardest part is getting your computer setup and registered to use vida. volvo has a good how to on the techinfo website, but it is a very odd procedure. as noted, you need to…

I gave up on Volvo. The independent guys in my town do it for $100.00 plus the software fee. I pulled enough of my hair out trying to get Vida to work. Although now I have a Drive Pro 😎

First let me say I love the VIDA tool for Volvo!! It is by far the greatest tool out there for these vehicles, and I already told the shop it is going to be my go- to when I have to diag Volvos. Its just a matter of becoming familar with its lay out. OK I ran into a snag. I put in a help request with Volvo, but maybe y'all have the answer. I made it as far as "purchase software." It asked for…

Right sorry,I meant to. Got busy. When I got to the "purchase software" portion of the procedure,I pressed the "purchase" button on the screen. A window popped up and asked for user name and PW to confirm purchase. I put in our VIDA user name and PW.(I was after all, in the VIDA program) The screen indicated that, that info was incorrect,it then automatically opened a new window for the…
