2013 Escape Se 1.6 Litre Turbo Cooling System
Hi Techs having a problem with this escape going into limp in mode intermittently , cooling fan turned on, temp gauge going to top, message on centre cluster warning to stop, coolant level is correct , not overheating runs at 185F, Has had recall already done regarding standpipe coolant temp sensor upgrade. Can not find any principal and operation of the standpipe coolant temp sensor or how to diagnose . Has anybody run into this problem before? . very hesitate to replace standpipe coolant sensor due to very expensive cost without proper diagnosis. Thx Al
If you have both codes perform the air bleed procedure, looks like a commom problem with air after opening the system
I know there's no codes set for it, but I have come across issues with the radiator shutter system causing the cooling system to go into protection mode. The gauge on these just does what the computer tells it to, so if there's any kind of cooling system control issue it doesn't like it will peg the gauge and pop up a message on the dash, regardless of what the temperature sensor is actually…
Is there any chance there was any line work done on the car recently like an engine or a transmission? I've seen three or four cases now where the field service action has been performed on the car so now there is an additional black communication box that is mounted on the side of the battery case facing the engine. There's two long leads that come off of this that we're supposed to be spliced…
I ran into the same thing recently. Shop installed a transmission and got the connectors crossed up.
If you have a P1299 without a P1285 suspect there is an issue with the coolant level sensor. Essentially its a module that broadcasts a low/not low level to the PCM on HSCAN. Check for corrosion, power, ground and can network activity when unplugged. if all ok replace standpipe.
Yes Chris I have checked the can network appears ok , I do not have a good known sample tho . I want to make sure it is faulty before I replace due to the cost . Thx Al
Chris, once the stand pipe hardware and software updates have been performed on the vehicle, how can one look at the various aspects about this new "module". Do you know if it shows up as a module on a network test, and what the acronym would be? And same question as far as data, do you know if it gets reported to the PCM as a bussed PID, or can you go into data logger and select whatever new…
It does not show as a module. There is a specific IDS service function for evaluating this: Toolbox; Powertrain; Service Functions; Coolant Level Sensor Check The fault is for an erratic signal from the coolant level sensor. If IDS is not available, I would recommend scoping the 4 wires. Validate the power, ground and clean can network patterns as you would expect on any other CAN network as…
Many thanks Chris. With them being so expensive, and one of the posters in this thread saying that they were able to clean it, I just wondered if there was a real time way of watching the PID in the first place. I'll be sure to check it out next time I'm hooked up to one. I Appreciate the quick response!
Thanks Chris that is awesome information now I feel more comfortable in my diagnosis to resolve this problem . Al
I recently had the exact same codes and symptoms on a similar year Escape. Likewise, not wanting to replace the stand pipe due to cost, I had read on Identifix that several people had cleaned the stand pipe to correct this so I thought I’d give it a shot. I did clean it, and the vehicle has been fixed for about a month or so now. If you remove the stand pipe you can take it apart and clean it…
