2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Custom 5.3L (F L82) 8-spd (8L90)

this is for a coworker’s brother’s vehicle.

truck has factory 7 pin connector for trailer connector and the connector was inside the dash for the factory brake controller. he installed the controller but it doesnt turn on.

is this something that can be turned on with MDS the way remote start and other things can be changed with ford IDS? im familiar with ford’s software but havent used GM’s new software yet. also can the ford VCM2 be used with MDS the way it can with SPS? or do i need to used a pass thru pro?

Last time I tried it wasn't possible to activate it , gm doesn't give the option to activate it. The connector under dash is for an aftermarket controller that the dealer sells that fits perfectly in the oem cavity. If the truck didn't come with it that means there's no trailer module on the frame

A VIN would be helpful, don't understand why posters leave the most important part of information out of their post.

All your questions are VIN specific, there is no way for us to check how the vehicle is equipped without the VIN. I know a lot of techs won't even reply to a post unless the VIN is provided, so you are limiting the amount of help you will receive without including the VIN in your post.

When you say controller which do you mean, and have you covered both of these? If the truck was not equipped with RPO JL1 from the factory the factory trailer brake controller cannot be added after-the-fact as per GM PIT5828A. There may be an aftermarket trailer brake controller that could be made to work. This kit (sold as a GM Accessory) may work depending on VIN.
