2006 Ram No 4Wd Operation And No Codes
Got a 2006 dodge ram 1500 (non srt10 or power wagon) originally came in with all lights on dash and nothing working, found tipm had lost vin and programing. Used witech and recovered vin and programming and now everything operates with no codes except no 4wd operation and no codes for 4wd. I Can see the 4wd knob input to cluster, then cluster sends that info over can network to tipm( cant find any pids with snap on, autel , or witech that show 4wd message leaving cluster or getting to tipm). I can control transfer case motor from plug at tipm and when I do the cluster responds buy turning on or off the appropriate light which it is recieving from tipm, there are no bi directional controls in cluster or tipm for 4wd. My question is how do I test if the cluster is sending out info and if the tipm is receiving info, I think the driver for transfer case motor in the tipm is the problem and I know tipms are common problems but like to have proof before I pull the trigger on a $1400 part.
Hi Shane: You have your proof. While re-programmable, a TIPM is not programmable. It self-registers with key on. It lost its memory. It should not have. It's dead. The body just hasn't dropped yet. Guido
So there is now way to diagnose? Just throw a part at it and hope. Not the way I like to do things but without a pico and ability to decode can signals i don't know of any other way
Hi Shane: I think that you misunderstood me. I am not saying the TIPM is the cause of your 4x4 issue. I am saying that it is defective though. It should not normally be possible for it to lose its configuration data short of remanufacturing. It did. Also, if you are buying these for $1500, you may wish to get your parts from another source. I'll save you some second guessing. There haven't…
Any other codes in vehicle? I had a 2008 Dodge Ram, no 4wd operation due to a open abs speed sensor circuit, ABS light was on. fixed and operation of 4wd returned.
thank you for this tip. jut found this very same issue on a 2006 dodge 5.9l i worked on today, found a bad power wire to the ABS module not letting the 4wd work
The customer has chosen to send the tipm to a rebuild company. I will let you know what happens when I get it back and installed. Thanks for the quick replies
