Used abs module programming, 2015 Jeep Patriot
Hello fellow techs and shop owners. This is my first post so hopefully I did it right, if I need to do something different please let me know.
This Jeep needs a ABS module and they are on indefinite back order so I am considering putting a used one on. I know some modules can not be programed unless they are new and I am not sure on this one. Has anybody done this on this model before? Can it be done? Any ideas or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Mike
I wouldn’t do it. I see too many issues of the other modules being corrupted and learning the incorrect Vin number which then can’t be changed back by conventional methods.
Lost if parts on intergalactic back order used will work when u install abs do abs Initialize and vin will transfer
I wasn't able to update vin on same vintage Jeep but was Grand Cherokee. A used module was installed and set ABS, Traction Control warning lights. I wasn't able to update Vin and have a Witech. I might have not done initialize or vehicle configure, I don't remember. I believe I tried everything. It may or may not work.
Using a scantool run the initialize module routine under miscellaneous or special functions menu. If the VIN updates in the module you will be good if it does not you will need a new one. If the VIN does not update do not release the vehicle as some functions may not work.
Lots will tell you it can be done. I have never gotten the. In to change
I put in a used abs module in a 2008 jeep commander with no problems
Older module were not an issue. Newer modules have become Vin locked. Security has become a major issue or the ability to not install used module. I haven't figured out which was the priority.
Just did it for a shop with a 2019 RAM
