Any thoughts to adding a Key cutting topic?
How about a locksmithing forum instead? This could include key cutting as well as key programming and remotes?
I'm not currently doing any key cutting but I am interested in learning about the locksmithing trade in general. As I get older I want to work smarter not harder. I would like to change the focus of my business to mainly programming, diagnostics and vehicle security.
In a large market one could probably do well going around town replacing keys all the time. With your LSID, investment in key blank inventory, the laser key cutter and the right combination of programming interfaces I can how it would be a great niche.
Naturally programming and diag would go along with your tooling and skill set.
Yes I think that would be appropriate. I hadn't poked through the whole list of forums yet so I didn't see that. I agree that we don't want to get carried away with too many forums, grouping together related topics would make more sense.
There may be a learning curve for people to figure out the appropriate forum to use for a specific topic. It might be good to build a forum table of contents page or cheat sheet. Something so people can quickly choose the right forum or find out where specific discussions will take place.
Attached you'll see the built-in ✅ cheat sheet 😉. Perhaps we'll come up with a way to auto-suggest the topic based upon what was written. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and suggestions.
I was thinking of something a little more detailed, for example, if someone is looking for the right forum to discuss "key cutting" they can search the document for "key cutting". Or maybe just have a forum topic search so if someone searches the words "key cutting" it will take them directly to the Security forum. Something like that.
Thanks for the suggestions. One consideration would be to “suggest” the “topic(s)” to the author after he or she has their draft complete for best fitment.
As for search, we plan on developing smart search algorithms aimed at providing the right results.
Thanks for bringing forth a suggestion. Looking at Bob's response below seems to make more sense as we certainly don't want to get too granular on topics otherwise we'd end up with far too many. Can you provide any further insight as to why we would want to consider your suggestion? Does Bob's suggestion seem wise?
Btw, we sent you an email via support about your two messages. When considering which topic(s) to select (you can select up to two) please select "…" for issue related to suggestions, features etc. Also, if you haven't already, you'll want to read Tom's post regarding currently known issues.
