Can anyone tell me what this is? It's not plugged into anything, can't find a trace of where it goes, and appears to be making a possible mess of things below it on the back bank of the engine. 2003 Acura MDX 3.5

Thanks everyone.

I don't believe it connects to anything. At least at that port. I believe the other end connects to the transmission and is the transmission vent, the box is a filter.

Pretty sure that's the box for the trans breather. The hose should be around somewhere…

Without more pictures, I'm inclined to agree with Eric. Can you post more pics? Maybe one that's zoomed out a bit, and one facing down from the top of that filter/solenoid/? Also- do you have any DTCs currently? Possibly in the TCM, or perhaps something is running lean? Can you tell us what the hose that is connected is running to?

Found this from Drew @ {website link inactive} “It is the breather tube box for the front transfer assembly. That line is supposed to be open for venting. Starting in 2003 the front transfer case was no longer oiled by the transmission. The transfer case was sealed and lubricated by gear oil, this is why it needs a vent that is separate from the transmission. In 01 and 02 the transfer is vented…

Hi Jordon, Possibly a crankcase vapor valve? Have you looked at All Data and checked the component location information. They usually have engine bay views.

It shouldn't be any fluid coming out of it if it is someone way overfill the transmission. As some point or tranny on its way outside, Is just a vent for the trans. Other unplugged end is normal that vent to atmosphere shouldn't be plug into anything

Thanks everyone. The unit appears connected and working as it should. Very messy engine bay. Hard to get a bearing on what caused it.

Hi Jordan, That engine bay picture you are showing looks cleaner than most I ever see around here. Dirt roads and oil fields along with ranches and farms can be rough on a vehicle.

Solved. Transmission breather. One hose ran to it from the Trans, other was bare, which was my concern. According to yall it's supposed to be that way. Thanks!
