FJDS issue or TCM issue?
So I was called out to to program a TCM on above vehicle. I get there and first thing I always do is an all code scan. I noticed that I could not communicate with the TCM on any of my 3 scan tools. So I asked why this TCM needed to be replaced and I was told that connector was broken for the TCM.(TCM is located inside the transmission on this thing) I said okay well it is weird that I can't talk to it. So I stopped went home that night and did a little reading. I found an article actually on here about someone stating that sometimes this TCM’s for said vehicle do not talk until you do the PCM programmable module installation. I go back the next evening and do the program. I get to about the end were it wants you to cycle the key off and then on and it just hangs up. Keeps asking to do the same thing and then says could not update the module. It then tries to exit the Programmable module installation but gets hung up and stays there.(for an hour before I forced closed the program) I checked to make sure the truck starts and runs. The vehicle does. So I try it again and same thing happens. I check codes and still no communication with TCM and I do have other codes for no communication with ECM and TCM from ABS module. (I can talk to ECM at this time.) I also noticed that sometimes when I pull the key out of the vehicle the airbag lights stay on and ABS light stays on. Dash lights will also stay on. If I let it sit for about 5 minutes and cycle the key on and off all is good again till it decides to act up again. To me it looks like that we have other issues going with this vehicle but my question is this. 1. Is it true that sometimes the TCM module is a no com till you do the programmable module installation? 2. I am I fighting ford FJDS or is their another issue cause I know FJDS has had problem the last several updates. 3. Is it worth me trying to uses forscan to update this module? A little info about my set up is I have a windows 10 64 bit Lenovo Thinkpad T440p with 8GB ram and 1TB partition to 256 GB storage. Ford FJDS and GM SPS are only two programs on that partition besides windows programs and some documents. I am using the snap-on pass thru 3. This is the first time I have had any problems with FJDS so far. Any guidance would be nice. Please remember this is another shop and I will more then likely not be doing anything other than programming the module. SO right now my job is to figure out if its an issue with software, hardware, user error or if they have another issue.
I just did a PCM/TCM reprogram on a 13 Fiesta this morning following a transmission replacement. I did an as-built flash instead of PMI as the new module was already installed. I started with PCM and it automatically did an as-built for the TCM as well. I had TCM comm codes in various modules before I started, but I could access the TCM with a scan tool. I actually just did a fresh install of FJDS on this laptop cause I wanted a dedicated laptop to programming. But what I will try maybe is do an as built . IF no go remove FJDS install it and not install the update.
Hey Philip !! How cold is it up there now ?? So not sure if there maybe a Conflict with FJDS , Im running 116.03 and Cardaq M unit. Last week I went to PMI a 2016 E series and it did the same things yours is doing. its warm right now at 18 degrees F. it was -10 to -20 F for awhile a week ago.
I would be checking how many pins are on the TCM connector. It should have the same number of populated pins that the harness side of the connector. You could very well have the wrong part installed. Can you communicate with all HS CAN modules, are there U codes? If any of the above issues, disconnect trans connector and see if they are resolved.
Reread your post. Disconnect trans connector and see if the other symptoms are gone.
6R80 TCM's are one of the few modules on a Ford that will not communicate until programmed. FORScan will not program modules, it only performs coding Your PC Should not be an issue. The lights staying on after key off seems irregular. some modules will not program without proper power cycling

Isnt this a ZF Mechatronics?? I remember I had a 2011 LandRover with the 6HP28. I put in a new Mechatronics from LandRover. If I remember correctly this one would also not communicate till I programmed it.
2010 F150 is the last year of Mechatronics in the pan (in the F150). It is a ZF design.
Perform a Network Test. A Blank Module will communicate with a network test, if not you have an issue. Self Test will not communicate with a blank module. Once the PMI is done, it will communicate for a self test.
So after talking to ford, removing FJDS and reinstalling. Trying to program another replacement unit they installed thinking the one they got was bad. I told them to hook the old one back up and see if ill start communicating again or I'll have to diagnose it myself to see why I can't program the module.
