2008 Mercury Milan 2.3L (Z) 5-spd (FNR5)

Hello DN today I was called to program a reman ECM on an 08 milan but when tried pmi ids will ask me to type the vin but it wouldn't let me write the whole vin only 16 out of 17 characters. Has anybody run into this ? If so what was the solution. I tried key off, special code, pmi with old ecm plugged , restarting session , restarting laptop and interface and always end up in same screen typing only 16 characters. Thanks in advance

If PMI is started with the original module as long as it is the original for the vehicle you shouldn’t have to input any new VIN it should only ask to verify the VIN already pulled from ecm at the start of the session.

Usually is how it works but in this case it doesn't program the programmable parameters (tire size, traction control, axle ratio etc) and when I try to program manually it asks me to write the vin. Thanks for your input

I did a similar vehicle last week with an updated IDS and PMI. The tool pulled the config and VIN from the old PCM and it only told me the vehicle and model year. It did not show the pulled VIN.

This is great info thanks! I have been writing the vin somewhere else like notepad, then copy paste into IDS and it jams all 17 digits in there.

Type the vin backward in the box. Usually a screen resolution problem

Recently had similar issue I was using the key board or hard keys and I could only input 16 digits, so instead I used the cursor and the on screen keyboard and that worked for me

Make sure your screen display is set to 100% . Right click on your desk top and change resolution to 100%. I find I often have to adjust screen resolution on different laptops to make FJDS display properly

Change your computer's display font size to something smaller. I had the same problem and it gave me fits. My poor eyes called for 110% and it caused the same issue. Go down to 90% or something like that and I bet your problem will go away.
