Failed Ford 6F35 Characterization Update
Attempted to perform “transmission characterization update” on new OEM valve body using FJDS and Forscan and both fail to perform the operation. If I attempt to update by strategy number, Forscan will “download” and fail in attempting to perform procedure. FJDS just showed failed. I've verified the strategy numbers right from the provided sticker and attempted to perform the procedure multiple times. The PCM software is up to date via FJDS. I have performed this procedure successfully on multiple vehicles. Can I please get some thoughts on what may be causing this issue?
Also is it saying fail or is it only accepting one number
Thank you for your questions! It’s a factory valve body from a company called Transtar. I have the old solenoid strategy number which I’ll attempt to write back into the PCM. If it works, then I’ll be able to rule out the PCM and JBox. After entering the 13-digit Solenoid Strategy number in FJDS, it went to a screen that said ”Operation not successful.” I’ll update the post tomorrow with my…
Kaimana, Never seen a valve body from Transtar come with a new solenoid ID/strategy sticker, like they do when a valve body is purchased from Ford. Furthermore, they typically grind the number imprinted on valve body off. If Transtar is providing a sticker now that is great. But is it correct? Many times I have been called in to program a Transtar valve body over the years and there is no…
When you say FJDS “fails”, can you be more specific? For example if you have a typo in one number but not the other…that one will usually be highlighted in red in order to guide the user. Maybe it's a system problem in which case you could type in the existing hex strings and see if it allows that…..or obtain a different pair of numbers by searching Google images or another vehicle maybe on…
Thank you for responding! I have access to the old valve body and will attempt to write the number into the PCM tomorrow.
This doesn't answer your question but most of the time you don't need to do the characterization. Just drive it and let it re-learn.
Hello, just try and use the original number off of the old main control
I have a 2014 in the shop right now that got a new transmission, we did the 7 number and 13 number strategy and id with IDS. It worked fine and no issues. I wonder if FJDS or ForScan can not perform the operation properly
Thank you again for all of your suggestions. After entering the IDN into the characterization update, FJDS says to do a drive cycle valve learning procedure. The characterization solenoid strategy number still says “not available,” but the vehicle has no codes stored and shifts as expected.
