Use only GM front motor mounts on 98-2004 Sevilles
Customer comes in with complaint that car dies or wants to die when you put your foot on the gas. I get in to move the car & feel right away the car needs front motor mount. After opening the hood see the intake duct hose split. Of course, this is caused by a bad front AFTERMARKET motor mount (seen it many times).
Explain to the customer he needs the front motor mount…. to which he replies “Just had them replaced!" I explain to him that may be the case, but the aftermarket front motor mounts have a grave defect. Seems the upper mount stud is internally bolted to the base of the mount. With little time & effort the nut unscrews & the upper stud assembly shears off… leaving no “safety catch" on the mount. The front of the engine raises extensively… to the point where the duct/MAF/hoses/wires are ripped apart!
Use only FACTORY front mounts on 98-2004 Sevilles or you will have a come back! I know the price difference is around $150, but worth it! To make things worse, the ducting & parts being damaged are getting harder to find every year! New parts are obsolete, so used are the only option.
It took my dealer 1 ½ weeks to deliver the new motor mount, hence that why I stock one.
“Do it your way, pay me twice. Do it my way pay me once”
I remember same generation Cadillac same concern but also was pulling on power steering pressure hose enough to leak all over every square inch of the engine compartment. Mounts were so bad I went to pull up on 4 post and gave the throttle a snap and engine felt like it was going to divorce the car. This was one of the rare circumstances when I was glad the customer declined the repair.
