Never assume
Just a reminder to never assume.I went to do a pmi on this truck at another shop because the pcm was replaced programming went fine.I could not relearn the key. They both were ford key that looked equally well used.I assumed original keys. When prompted to put second key in for relearn everthing went normal and said successful. In that past i rember it saying key was already programed. After pulling my hair out i realize pids only show 1 programmed key a trip to the dealer and another key got it going. The 2 keys that came in with the truck do both work after only programming one of them so obviously they had the same chip in them. Oh and to top it off the cheap reman pcm they put in had more issues than the one it was replaceing.
These are the exact reason I have started carrying and cutting keys in my van
I have run into this more and more lately. Finally I decided it was necessary to buy a tool to read the chips in the keys so I know if they are cloned before attempting. It takes 5 seconds to check the key ID's now instead of scratching my head like I did on the last couple before I bought it.
I think he's talking about this tool: aetools.us/products/ae-to…
I bought a vvdi mini key tool.
One thing you will run into is most key tools are kind of in a grey area. Most are made in China and a lot of ppl have mixed feelings towards them. Unfortunately there are things the manufacturers were not able to think about when building vehicles . The possibility that ppl would clone keys years down the road was something never thought of so there’s no way to know if you have a cloned key…
Tanner do mind sharing where you purchased the tool.
I bought mine from Isaac Rodell, I let him know about this post so he could comment as well.
Yea I would be interested in that tool as well. Is there a way to message other members?
