Binary and Hex, Module 3: 30 Oct, 5pm EST and 02 Nov, 8pm EST
Module 3 relies on understanding of Module 1 contents!
I will be presenting Binary and Hex, Module 3, on 30 Oct, 5pm EST and 02 Nov, 8pm EST.
While Modules 1 and 2 focused on numeric and bit-coded values, we will take a look at how letters and other characters are transmitted over a CAN bus. For that we will learn about ASCII, Unicode, and how to navigate Canonical Hex+ASCII display (which, unsurprisingly, is used in pretty much any EEPROM editor):
Then we will take a look at how a scantool initiates communication over a CAN bus and reads in module's VIN and name. Could it be as simple as noticing a message like this one?
We will find out! To make things simpler, we will be using an OBD CAN emulator and Serial Decoder in Picoscope:
