Get 'em While You Can

Since there is a time bomb involved, I think that "Event" is probably the best fit for this.

I have somewhat of a passing familiarity with "pricing integrity". It appears that GM is making a change effective January 1. The official announcement will be on Friday. If you purchase your parts online, you may wish to do so soon. Reading between the lines, low-balling online isn't going over too well with some dealers. I wouldn't be surprised if some raise prices sooner. Think of it as a way to boost numbers before the end of the year.

Hi Guido, I guess we'll have to wait and see, but there have been some very low prices on the internet for parts. Years ago I had a guy wanting a price for brakes on his Corvette - the dealer had checked it out and said it needed pads and rotors. Not a big surprise as these tend to wear the rotors with pad wear. I gave him a price and he said Amazon had the AC Delco stuff for…

I don't know, I've installed dozens of torsion style garage door springs as well as adjusted many more and never given it a thought. Those springs are a lot safer than the extension style springs you can buy all day long at the big box stores, I won't even go near a door using those style springs. I'll stick with my local suppliers, thank you very much. At least I'm pretty sure those parts…

Hi Eric, So my theory on liability is not true? Where did you locate the springs? I must not have looked in the right places, but it was about 10 years ago.

Have you ever seen the damage one of the extension springs cause when they let go. Do you know they are supposed to have a cable running through the spring, attached at each end of the spring mounting bracket so they don't fly all over when they break? Have you have seen one with the cable installed? When one of the extension springs break they can be lethal, the spring and cable can fly in any…

Buying parts really has been a crap shoot lately especially if the customer supplies there own parts. We live in a world where customers shop around for parts and service by price only. When I supply the parts I find it hard to be able to compete with the prices because I will only supply what I know is quality parts. When you purchase dealer…

Hi Stuart: In …e you missed the point, the OP pertained to "dealer parts". My guess on the pricing would be a combination of NUMMI being no more and Toyota being the only game in town. You may've heard that there was an election in 2016. Factor that in also. japantimes.co.jp/news/2019/09/2… Guido

Guido That is where the confusion lies.AC/Delco is not GM factory parts.I know that a lot of GM dealers are selling AC/Delco over the counter as factory parts but that is only for extra profit.AC/Delco is a licensed brand and I don't even know if they are even affliated(owned) with GM anymore.Just like Motorcraft is with Ford,AC/Delco is an aftermarket…

Hi Stuart: As I mentioned, the OP pertains to dealers selling parts. Dealers sell parts online - lots of dealers, lots of parts. Here's an example. (I just picked something for something and wasn't looking for anything in particular. It could've been a body panel.) nucarchevy.com/PartsOrderForm… BTW, A/C Delco "can" be OEM just as Motorcraft "can" be OEM for Ford. Based on your…

The key words are "can be" is what I am talking about.Any company could label a part as their brand and get away with claiming it is OEM.Unfortunately it's not only auto parts but just about anything. And that is the bottom line here.I have been in this business for over 30 years, probably longer then you have been on this planet and I have never had more…

Hi Stuart, Did you happen to read my post down below? I've been doing this for awhile as well, and have specialized in GM vehicles since I left the dealer world in 1991. I know a thing or two about parts and could likely walk into any GM dealer and get a job on the counter selling parts. I'm not tooting my own horn here, but I have been around back when Group Numbers were important and paper…

Scott The point I was trying to point out,and I too been in the game long enough to know what I am talking about.I have purchased AC/Delco parts for many years from way back to the Delco/Remy days.Their starter and alternators had the highest failure rate in the industry. When you opened up the case to change the clock position sand would fall out of it from the…

Very true Guido I'm constantly amazed that people can't find the why for what appears to be the "same" part yet has different price ranges. 1st scenario..... OE 8 digit part number brake pad... The same as what it left the factory with. This also has a "declo' part number. Highest price of these 3 scenarios. 2nd scenario...... has an 8 digit part number but is manufactured by an aftermarket…

Hi Stuart, I can understand the confusion as to what actually constitutes a factory part anymore within the global economy of today. Gone are the days of Rochester, Packard, Harrison, Delco Remy... AC Delco does sell factory parts as well as aftermarket parts. You just have to know what you're buying. For the most part (there are exceptions) if you buy OEM AC Delco, this is the very same part…

Hi Scott: I'd like to say that you're wrong but what I say doesn't carry weight. I wonder what these guys say. acdelco.com/service-parts… There are numerous dealers doing the same thing. BTW, I've replaced my share of these. Owning many Beetles over the years made doing the job much easier. ryderfleetproducts.com/ryder/af/ryder… No rabbit hole involved Scott…

Hi Guido, acdelco.com/service-parts… Well, I don't think they care about who sells the parts, just as long as they sell. If you notice, Amazon, Rock Auto, ebay are all listed as online sellers of Genuine AC Delco parts. I know that the official channels for distribution got changed and the WD's were not too happy about that, as GM dealers across the country now could get the…

I personally have a policy that if you supply parts then all warranty is void. And will be charged if said installed part doesn't fix the problem and has to be diagnosed again. I also live by the honor system that if I made a bad diagnosis then I don't charge that fee in the end. I also only install certain parts on certain vehicles no exception. I'd rather loose a job repair job then see bad…

Hi Phillip, I just have a policy that if that is what a consumer would like to do I'm unable to help them. I've had a few instances over the years that confirmed that these people will drive you nuts and cause you to go broke if you let them. Many years ago I had a guy that brought in a water pump to be installed. I tore it down and then opened the box, grr. the wrong part. I place a call to…

diag.net/file/f5uh4fvxk… This, from what I read is a good thing, and follows suit with other companies that set policies that protect all retailers, such as what Apple does. From my personal standpoint this would seem to stop at least the practice of the example I used of Amazon listing brake pads less than the actual dealer cost for that part. The only ones that might get upset…

Hi Scott: For the most part, it is as I expected. The surprising part is that this was "semi"-public. Numbers 8 & 9 illustrate the "semi" part of my comment. Granted, guessing what is in there is speculation. Still, I could probably write down what I think is in there, place it in an envelop and place that in a hermetically-sealed mayonnaise jar. I'd be willing to bet that my guess would be…

Hi Guido, Your last two sentences brings me to - us, collectively, as a group of whatever we might be called and the word compete. I think I've mentioned this before, but you can't compete, or have competition with no ground rules in place. What we're left with is a 'competition' between a diverse group of characters with their own vision of what running a business means, which would be alright…

Hi Scott: I can't answer about the discount but the "About Us" section of PartsDirect was informative. I can say this though. If I wanted to purchase a Borla exhaust (w/o tips) for a 2017 Suburban w/5.3L , it would cost me $200 less at the PartsDirect site. (The first vehicle that popped into my head and I just picked something for a part.) In your example choices, they claim to have different…
