2007 Volvo XC70 2.5t Extended Cranking, stores code 5000
The 2007 Volvo XC70 2.5t has an extended crank time. Sometimes it takes 30 seconds to finally fire up, some occasions it will fire right up. Stores code 5000 after a few cranks. New battery, new crank sensor, fuel pressure is good, and no contamination on crank sensor. Did use a scope to capture crank sensor, intake cam sensor, exhaust cam sensor and coil #1. Captured a “known good” from a 2006 Volvo XC90 2.5t and captured the exact same pids and got some odd data. Looking for advice or a direction to go. Thanks.
I have solved a lot of those with starter, starter causes interference. however, I dont see interference in your pattern, but it looks like engine is already running in the captures? from identifix: “ With a scope, check output of the CKP. Check while cranking. Watch the pattern as the starter stops spinning. If the pattern looks like it was drawn with a Sharpie (thicker line) or has vertical…
Just like Larry said, I have fixed very many of those with the starter. Make sure you rout the cabling away from the ckp sensor. Also we only use Bosch starters on volvos.
Third vote to watch the starter very closely. They crank over a bit like an old car where the distributor has a few plug wires exchanged, but then run fine afterwards.
Yes this is true sometimes with it kicking back when cranking, it can also cause the tachometer to jump when cranking. You would never believe the starter can cause this but it’s actually pretty common if you see a lot of Volvos
I just wanted to let everyone know the starter was replaced on the XC70 today. After the starter replacement no more extended crank. The Volvo starts up every time without a hitch. I do appreciate everyone's input. Thank you very much!
Please explain how this is . I 100 percent believe you but is it the emi because the harness is close to crank wiring ??
I believe it’s excessive starter draw. I have not ever proven this but I have literally fixed dozens of these with the exact same problem. The first one many years ago I replaced everything. Then identifix helped me to replace the starter. This happens on any older volvo with the 5 cylinder engine. I have not seen this issue on the later 2010+ models But it might be possible.
