2006 Saturn Vue Programming New BCM, Or That Was The Plan
Well I thought this would be a straight forward job. I guess that's what I get for thinking.
I installed a new BCM on this vehicle - GM Part# …
I went to program this Tech2 Remote and Legacy Pass-Thru using TIS2Web. Neither way was working (I realize these are two different methods)and going to the Tech2 Version 33.004

Vehicle list - Chevrolet, ….Holden, Workhorse, Mauck Bus... No Saturn is listed.
I backdated the software to the only other version GM has listed to 32.008 - still the same choices as above.
Either way there's a severe error reading the ECU data. What was odd was it happened way too quick, like there wasn't even an attempt to communicate.
I tried the same thing with the MDI2 and J2534.
A call is placed to AC Delco and they remote into this laptop. I'm told that because this is a Saturn and switching to TIS2Web, they'll have to get the files on their end as they're not on the server. Um, OK.
I try 2 different Tech2's and neither would go through while they're on the laptop/phone with me. We got past the point of the Tech's, RJ45, ethernet, Tripp-Lite...They were trying to program using J2534 Tool which didn't seem right, but gave up and...
I try the MDI2 and after multiple attempts it seems to go through. But what was odd was once the programming started the files loaded as quickly as the bar could fill up. The mileage was entered as 113,651 and after cycling the key it read 113,716? Odd, and the guy on the phone thought so as well. Although I seem to remember the mileage not being exact on other vehicles.
Next up was relearning the VTD, which should have been 10 minutes, but this went through as quickly as the BCM program.
Currently the PCM is not learning the VTD and the Security MIL is on steady. This won't learn either with SPS (I'm back at the severe error again) or using the 30 minute procedure as the MIL never goes out.
My gut tells me the BCM hasn't programmed correctly.
I've placed 2 more calls to AC Delco and they haven't called me back yet. The way it looks this will be sitting here Monday for me.
The mileage being off a few seems normal. As far as the speed of programming...that seems a little odd but some of those BCM's used SPS but really just need configuring...not much software actually going in. In the BCM do you have any theft related codes and do you VTD data pids look normal?
Hi Scott: A few (disjointed) thoughts come to mind. 1: Were you trying to ID the vehicle to program with J2534Tech2? As a rule, Saturn didn't support Remote Programming. Saturn isn't always a selection in SPS. Since the SPS page has changed, changing it in the Sales Make isn't possible any longer either. Scott, is this maybe one of the vehicles you need that special red saturn connector on the Tech2? If you used that then tried using it as a passthru.... maybe?
Hi Maynard: The "red adapter" was only required on the 1996 through 1999 models, primarily PCM. While it is probably a coinky-dink, when Agilent stopped making the Tech2, the adapter was no longer required for the vehicles going forward. HTH, Guido
About two weeks ago we had a 2005 Saturn towed in where an aftermarket shop installed a new OEM BCM and wanted us to program it. We couldn't program the BCM or any other modules on the vehicle although we could communicate with all modules. We tried Tech2, MDI, and MDI2 in all different manners and still couldn't make it work. Hi James and all, AC Delco called back and we were able to get the Tech2 to do the programming by using the Pass-Thru option. This time I left the CANdi module off the set up as recommended by them. The VTD learn was another matter. It didn't happen by using SPS as there's no timer that comes up. It just completes the relearn within a matter of seconds and the PCM still has the P1631, so it's…
Scott, Saturn BCM programming was always dicey at best. I have done my fair share over the years. Saturn was never supported with Tech2 remote. I have always used SPS J2534 pass thru or Legacy. I have used the original MDI as well. Mileage even after entering correct mileage always gained some mileage. As far as Theft Relearn goes. Scott, If you still have a TIS2000 DVD and dongle, I have found it useful for older vehicles programming and theft issues. You can use win7 32bit and make program compatible with XP. If you have any questions on it, feel free to reach out to me and I will do my best to help. -Mike
Hi Mike, Unfortunately I sold off that stuff a few years ago. I've got TIS loaded on a Win7 laptop that I'm running in a virtual machine and XP. Although without the dongle I'm not able to do programming. Thank you!
As I mentioned to James, AC Delco did call back but I'm stuck at the VTD learn which did not complete. A friend of mine, Phil Fournier, was kind enough to stop by on Saturday with an old XP laptop that had TIS2k loaded on it. We tried to program the BCM and then the PCM VTD. Threadsurrection! I am looking at one of these beasts and I need to program a used PCM. (Reman/New PCMs are discontinued and unavailable.) Unfortunately, TIS2000 cannot communicate with the vehicle using the Tech2 as a pass-through or with an external interface. The vehicle is not recognized by my Tech2 SPS - either with the GM card or the “Saturn” card, and going online with SPS2 just crashes…
Exactly the same vehicle of this thread. Hence my tagging on, rather than starting a new thread. The only difference is this is a PCM failure, not BCM.
Just throwing this out there, maybe the PCM flashes over serial data vs. CAN? Looks like pin 7 on DLC.
Hi Jeff, Are you using a Tech 2 and a CANdi module? Does the PCM communicate with the Tech 2?
No CANdI - there is no CAN on the DLC. Tech2 doesn't have a Saturn option in SPS, anyway. So, I tried Tech2 as pass-thru, but no different result than the MDI. Instant no-comms. The Tech2 does communicate in diagnostic mode just fine. (As does Tech2Win.)
