Used motor was installed at another shop. Quality of engine, & workmanship seems ok
Has had a used motor installed before coming here. Came in with 2b51 (p0100) maf signal, 2b5f maf correction signal, 2bd4 monitoring power supply 3 driver CY320 2f36 aux water pump activation, 28be fuel press plausibility. 2f1a cool temp sig, 2f22 eng temp plausibility, & 28a5 boost press sens plausibility. It was low on coolant due to a leaking water pump. topped up coolant, cleared faults. 2b51, 2b5f, & 2bd4 would not clear. Then test drove. It runs well unless you get into it, just not getting boost. Faults 28a5, 2b51, 2b5f, 2bd4, & 2f36 came back. The scan tool data looks like the fuel rail press, maf, coolant, eng temp, & boost press sensors are responding. The test plan for the power supply driver CY320 fault has you checking the v ref to the fuel rail sensor, which seems to be responding,around 5mpa at idle moving a few tenths. We don't have the test harnesses mentioned in SI. Not making sense of SI Need a direction/ suggestions for testing. Thanks for any help
All i can think of is RUN FOREST RUN! Junkyard engines are like playing Russian roulette. Manufacturers change how systems function without any thought of the servicing of said systems. God only knows if the engine matches the car. Or did the installer accidently yank the harness half out of a connector. You surely can make money easier. YMMV.
Did they use wiring harness that came with motor or old harness ????
Only engines I've used that had a completely undamaged harness are the ones I pulled myself 25 + years ago. I avoid engine swaps now. I've seen engines come in that had damper/timing cover replacement. Not many salvage yards employ workers that know how to reassemble some of this stuff. Work backwards with a good visual inspection first. How’s the ground on the valve cover ? That ground is very important. I believe your gonna have multiple issues for these faults. For boost, there’s 2 vacuum hoses that run from under the intake from a vacuum reservoir up to the turbo and vacuum Pump. Are they correct ?
Jason, The ground is bolted to the front of the head, in front of the valve cover. There is a brass looking nut made into the valve cover between cyls 3 & 4. Should it be on the valve cover? Thanks
Tommy, This is where ISTA is worth it's weight in gold. It would develop a measures plan, and at the very least, point you in the right direction. Buy or borrow ISTA. If your not programming, you can run ISTA with a J box. It would help a great deal.

first , check timing chain, weak point on mini, if the engine has 70,000 miles or more, it needs a timing chain. next and only after timing chain is checked and engine timing is know to be correct, look at vacuum line at turbo, at idle should have vacuum. Duane, Will be checking vacuum to the reservoir, & solenoid this am. The turbo spins freely & doesn't have excess play. It doesn't set any timing codes, & the chain is quiet. Thanks
Waste gate pressure converter , blow off valve and mass air flow sensor all share the same power feed from the DME. Do you have power to any of these components ? You can use this link for OE wiring diagrams. newtis.info/tisv2/a/en
William, We have idfix oem wiring info, but your link was very helpful.
