hey everyone had a equinox with the LYX 1.5 with a engine oil leak coming from leftside of engine at the vacuum pump. when i removed the vacuum pump i found the vacuum pump teeth broke and damaged the exhaust camshaft gear. found metal in oil pan and pick up tube. also found oil pressure control solenoid screen had metal on it. oil filter had metal in it to. this vehicle did not come in for this concern i found this on my inspection of the vehicle. vehicle came in for a no start due to a faulty fuel pump.

Hope it's still under warranty…

It's not covered under powertrain warranty. Should be, but my experience has always been not covered. Preventative maintenance vacuum pump replacement?

That's worse than the one we did.

I've encountered that same thing on Minis and Range Rover Evoques with the ford 4 cyl. I found on those that the oil was way overdue, caused the pump to seize and snap the connection. That camshaft looks like it should be ok to reuse, but getting all the oil out will be difficult. I would prepare them for the possibility of needing a motor.

Nice, I used to see this all the time on the 1.5 16 and newer Malibus and Cruze with 1.4 16 an newer.

Super common when oil changes, or poor oil quality is used. Most IBWs (Idiots Behind the Wheel) don't know that an oil change is not something one should scrimp on. But, most do, and the result is what you've got there. I'm starting to see broken pistons because of crappy oil now, similar to the Audis with the issue.

So that's under warranty ? Others are saying “lack of oil changes” but to be honest with you I don't buy that for a cause at that low of a mileage.
