ASE Recerts

Thomas Technician Virginia Posted   Latest   Edited

Good Afternoon all,

This has been some hectic year for everyone. I just remembered that I have two Ase certs about to expire at the end of this month. I downloaded the new app to see if I could renew them on there. I see now that you have to answer a question periodically and its more to maintain the cert(s) over a period of time. Will I need to still purchase the recertification test and go into Prometric in order to keep them valid or if they expire can I keep answering the questions on the app to renew my lapsed certs. If they do lapse and I need to go to Prometric in person to take the tests will I need to do the initial certification exam or can I still choose the recertification exam on MYASE?

Thanks

If they expire before you retest you will still take the recert tests. Not sure about the question on the app.

Hi Thomas, Thanks for posting this question on DN. The … Renewal App is a great way for technicians to maintain their credentials without having to take time off work to go to the testing center. Let me answer your questions. The … Renewal App can be used as an alternative to going to the testing center. The app is only available for the automobile series of certifications (A1-A9). If you…

Kevin, Please see my updated reply to you. I'm editing this one because I can't delete it. I tried to edit it originally with updated info and somehow it created two posts.

Tony- Its $48 per year. If you have 1 recert or 9 the price is the same. (I do all 8 every year) Ive been using the app since the Beta phase and for the most part Im pleased. It can be used from any place, at any time, on any device.

Thanks, Rudy. There were a lot of stipulations so I didn't want to miss anything important. It looks like testing centers are going to be a thing of the past if this works out for them.

Kevin, This thread reminded me to renew my (extended due to Covid) ASE certs which expire at the end of 2020. I went to order the tests and the order process has changed. Once I went to my cart I saw this: diag.net/file/f3edei6kg… There's a curious heading “Round Rock ISD McNeil High School” as if that is supposed to be my testing center. It's located in Austin TX. That's a bit of a drive…

Hi Tony, Thanks for checking in. You have throw a lot at me. Let me try to break it down into a couple themes. I will start first with the app, since that is the program I work on. The app has a annual subscription price of $48 + tax where applicable. It is a 12 month subscription that only covers the A1-A9 certifications, which is also our largest subset of technicians we certify. It does not…

Thanks for the detailed reply, Kevin. I had not factored in the L series tests which would apply to me when it comes to comparing the cost of conventional testing vs using the app + conventional L series tests. So I will actually pay more over five years, even if I only recertify L1 at $124 (test center) + $240 for five years of A1-A9 for a total of $364 vs attending two testing sessions over…

I totally understand and for some people, there are additional costs that also need to be factored it. Time away from the shop, travel and anciliary costs also need to be brought into the equation. Then think about the benefits of keeping up with newer technology. All of these may need to be considered too. The app may not be for everyone. We understand that. I just don't want you to sell…

Hey Chris, I am doing well. I hope you are doing good during all this. I still have your card up on my board, I need to save your number in my phone haha. Yeah I think I will go the test center route. Might as well spend the time to take 25 questions and recert for the 4 more years or whatever it is..

My co-worker is doing the app. I took one look at it and had trouble signing up, so I just said forget it, signed up and took all of them at the test center. I'm set until 2026.
