Multiple module replacement
This vehicle originally came in as a no crank no start and to make a long story short we find out that it was struck by lightning taking out a majority of the modules on the CAN line. It appears that only the fuse block and radio survived. After much debate with the customer and the insurance company we replaced all the modules that were unresponsive or corrupting the data lines. After programming everything as per GM SI, it cranks but doesn’t start with no codes. There is also no mileage on the cluster for the odometer. It appears that the mileage cannot be adjusted. I have a feeling that there is an exchange of data between the ECM and the BCM when one of them is replaced but since both are new there is nothing to exchange. SI is very vague on how the odometer and security data are exchanged but that’s not surprising considering it’s a nissan. I’m hoping there is someone here that has some Nissan experience that can give me some input or has seen any issues with replacing both the BCM and ECM at the same time.
Your info says chevrolet. Can you give either vin and/or specify the vehicle
Have you looked at service info for a Nissan NV200 instead of the City Express? May/may not help you find the answer you need
I have programmed these vehicles with Consult III before. I just had to ID without the VIN. You may have an easier time setting things up with consult. I believe the Nissan dealer has access to some files that are not on the public site. Worst case would be going in at EEPROM / MCU level. Although not always intact we get lucky with the chips sometimes. Many of the newer vehicle chips are secure…
I'm surprised the radio survived. All lightning strike I have done always go thru the radio and out of the ABS. Then take a few modules out along the way. Run CAN bus diagnostic and check all module and see which ones don't communicate and verify which ones the vehicle doesn't have. You can bypass any suspected modules by jumping the can lines, if you have a group of modules out. Program the…
Verify if you have a fuel pump control module or trailer module working.
If you put in a new cluster and bcm it should ask you for mileage, if the cluster and the bcm do not communicate during programming it will display 0 miles, you can try to reprogram the bcm after fixing the communication faults and it may take the mileage at this point. If it has the original cluster try reading the mileage off of the cluster with techline connect. The mileage can be reset with…
Thank you for the quick responses and for all of your input. For those not familiar with these vehicle, it is a nissan NV200 that is rebadged and sold as a Chevrolet in North America. I have looked up a few things in all data as a Nissan and it has gotten me a little farther as they explain it a little better than being translated through GM and SI. Currently it has a new airbag module, ECM…
Apologies for the lack of updates, but I was out of the country for a while. Parts delays and an overall lack of priority have kept us making more progress. The no start was pretty simple. After inspecting the coils, one of them appeared to have a burn mark. I decided to measure resistance across various pins and figured I would have an arbitrary number that would be constant on all 4 coils…
