Thinking about purchasing an ats or pico nvh
All I have right now is the wireless chassis ear.
I don’t know if I need any more than that?
Looking for opinions.
Anyone have the ats?
Do you do a lot of vibrations? If not, do not purchase it. You can get the Phone App which is almost as good. Made by the same guy as PICO basically. Noise Vibration Harshness NVH App Vibrate Software Automotive Diagnosis
I agree, the NVH app is fantastic I have it and have compared with the Pico. I love the Pico setup but try the app and I think you’ll be impressed.
William this looks interested. How exactly it works with this app. Do you have to have any other accessories?
I find a stiff windshield phone mount works best. It almost acts as an amplifier. It uses the accelerometer already built into your phone.
I have the NVH app, but don’t have a great way of getting readings, how do you mount your phone on the vehicle. It seems the Vehicles I have a vibration on, the app doesn’t pick it up real good. Any tips on phone placement?
Do you use this app without plugging into the OBD port?
You can use the app with a Bluetooth elm327 device if you want but it can also be used without it. It will use GPS to determine vehicle speed and estimate engine rpm
Do you know of which one exactly? It seems most are not supported?
The attached pic is right from the app. I’ve heard a couple of guys in my classes say the Kiwi3 works great.
The Pico NVH is great. If you already have a picoscope then it’s only around $600 for the starter kit and $1200 for the standard kit At AESwave. I have the Pico and it works amazing. The phone app for only $99 is amazing and I love it because it’s always in your pocket. I have videos of the phone app and the Pico set up on the sale car and they pick up almost the exact same amplitude of…
I just posted a case study on nvh here on diag net, you can see set up. I would go with pico nvh
I'm going to be the black sheep here and say I do have both and even used my Pico to do a couple of prop shafts. My Phone is a Note20 Ultra the results from the Phone are nowhere near what the Pico is telling me(but that is just me). I like the Pico and would buy it again.
Hi Darren, Ah, the memories of being a technician with a Body Shop chain. NVH was a daily challenge, especially after a vehicle has had major repairs. Much of what I learned was from experience and prior to all of this new technology available today. My Steelman Chassis Ear was new, very trustworthy and heavily used back then I am old school (I guess) and take noise, vibration and harshness…
That’s very solid advice. 100 percent!!! Will take that to heart.
Hi Darren. I use the Pico NVH kit and also have John Kelly's NVH App. The latter works well, especially when using a mount on the windshield, but the Pico NVH kit is my primary tool. The Pico GM NVH kit that I use has the drive line balancing kit with magnetic mount for the optical pickup and interface. John has included all of his diagnostic learning information in the App, from his…
Outstanding! Thank you for your experience and insight!
