Malibu Cluster
I have a 2010 Malibu from a car lot that came from auction with a used cluster.
The odometer is frozen and from what I understand it is a mismatch with the vin or something. It looks like it is a one time install and is locked to the car but does anyone know if there is anyway to reset the cluster with an EEPROM edit or something so it will work?
Buying a cluster or getting one rebuilt will not be a problem but just wanted to know.
Thanks for your time.
My experience is bcm and ipc mileage must match, mileage will not change until which ever has the lower mileage catches up to the higher. I am not familiar with the eeprom procedures (want to learn). I have had this situation many times with auction cars..
Hi Brian That is what I had read so having access to other clusters I found one that had a few miles more than (the best I could tell) the car had. I drove the car so the mileage in BCM would catch up with the cluster but it did not start working. Thanks
Have you tried programming the BCM? I would personally try reprogramming the BCM then the cluster using SPS. No guarantee but worth a try
Hi Bill There is no programming that can be done on the cluster on this car that I can find. The BCM is a manual setup or a copy from old module and input into new module then it looks to lock the module. Thanks
Need to read dash eeprom 93c66 and change vin and zero out milage. After that installed to car and should pick up milage from bcm .
Hi Edgar I don't have a lot of experience with editing eeproms other than swapping or copy and writing to another. I did some research and think I found the location of the mileage on the eeprom and changed it and I also change the vin but after you drive or turn the car on and off a few times the vin gets erased so I guess there must be something checking to see if it has been changed.
if the vin gets erased try programming cluster with SPS. SPS might see it as a new module and etch the vin in. Also I am very curious what tool you used to change the vin!
Hi Jeffrey There is no programming in SPS that I can find that can be done on the cluster or BCM. As far as I can tell the BCM is a manual setup or a copy from old module and input into new module with a Tech2 then it looks to lock the module. When the cluster is new or rebuilt it gets set up the first time it is connected to the car and the key is switched on the best I can tell. I'm…
Hi i did odometer change once . With xtool 100 pad it is possible
Hi Tarsis I could change the mileage in the BCM if I wanted to as that is where the mileage is stored but I do not want to change the cars mileage I was just trying to get a used cluster to work in the car.
