Expanding our capabilities

In the past we have re-programmed a few vehicles here at our shop but was thinking of expanding our capabilities on letting other shops in the area know that we are equipped to do so. Has anyone reached out to other shops to offer programming?

1/2 of what we do is programming and diagnostics for other shops and body shops. The send you the not easy ones or the expensive to do ones. and the problem cars. You will need to be an advanced programmer to make an easy buck.

We do 90% programming, and diagnostic 10% is the one oil change, and brake job that we do for some customers. but just like Allan says, they don’t send nothing easy at all. Everything is just headache, but it’s rewarding once is done. Good luck, go for it.

Mike I stared offering programming services to other facilities in my area about 3 years ago i now offer a mobile programming service to other facilities. I find a great deal of module replacement results in the vehicle no longer being able to run or drive ECM, BCM, TCM, FPCM, ICM these are just some examples... What I am getting at is your success will be based on not only your ability but the…

Yea Bill when I said a few it was literally only like 3 vehicles. Ford for an o2 sensor issue, GM to program a TCM and another GM for misfire issue. I don't think I would be getting involved with any headaches but rather a re-flash for a drive ability issue or to program a new module. I don't know anything about module recovery or any kind of troubleshooting.

Also try reaching out to reputable transmission shops. A lot of them are in need of tcm programming.

Mike when one chooses to look for programming work they must expect and accept the headaches! Its always easy till it isn't... New modules are no exception either. I had what was supposed to be 3 easy programming jobs yesterday. (All of them were new modules installed by other shops) 2 of them took alot longer than they should have, required thinking out of the box and additional diagnosis to…

We have done dozens and dozens of Ford, GM, VW, other. We can now do most makes/models. There is a good learning curve, but what choice do you have. Having the capabilities in house is most important. Sell outside is just another business model once you know how to do it. Each manufacturer is different, and you have to be ready for that. Even just a dead battery today can mean you are using a…
