2021 Malibu Srs Used Module Programming
Good morning all,
On a 2021 chev malibu can the SRS module be reprogrammed ? And can it be replaced with an non deployed part ? Reason i ask is i was unsuccessful at clearing it after air bag repairs with sps
A big no on global a global b modules you can’t program used modules unless you send it to get virginized and program with sps again
Hi Hector, Check with the dealer or I-Car collision training and information. Usually, SRS modules are replace only item after a collision deployment. Most are built with a permanent latch circuit or a burn segment that renders it useless. Besides that, would you risk your family to a questionable safety device? Also, NHTSA should have information on this. No used SRS or air bag components…
As far as I can tell, Alabama is the only state that addresses the installation of a used air bag; it's not prohibited but must be disclosed to the consumer. I don't see any laws regarding sensors or modules. Several states have laws against installing an “airbag simulator” or any other device that isn't specified for that particular make and model. In New York there's a new law prohibiting sale…
Needs to be new from dealer. Who is trying too cheap out on a 21 lol??!!.
I understand. Honestly I would walk away until they get you what is needed to properly fix the car. Not your problem.
Global A/B cars cannot have used modules put in and just reprogrammed. If you attempt attempt the system may brick the used module and as a “punishment" may also brick other modules on the network. I had a 2016 Cruze the customer put a junkyard park brake control module after I told them not to when I diagnosed the original PBCM had died. They put it in and it not only wiped out the donor PBCM…
Here is a link to I-car. The manufacturer and the insurance company have the final say and guidelines that vary from state to state. 2007 Ford Ranger (i-car.com)
Did you open module up or read by can? Try to clear codes in module gm allow for one deployment typically
Used on the Global architecture vehicles is almost always an issue. I'd not want to be involved in an SRS module issue with a salvage module in any case. Going by best practices with safety equipment is the only way to keep yourself out of trouble with liability. The SRS module will definitely have to be replaced because of the ‘event data’ that is stored. There are some laws, but they vary from…
