P0300 — Random/Multiple Cylinder Misfire Detected
Multiple Misfires

Looking for a good cam/crank signal for a 2007 Honda Ridgeline. Got called to this vehicle today. Customer wanted me to look at replacing ECM and programming (other shop told him that is what it may need). Got to looking at vehicle, exhaust has been replaced, stopping just short of catilitic converters. Did some quick checks, and noticed a fuel control problem right away. Missfiring on both banks in all cylinders. Long term fuel trims Bank one -17 short term -12. Bank two long term -14 short term -6.

First thing I'm thinking is defective cats. Still may be but couldn't do backpressure test today. Will try again tomorrow. But looking for a good cam/crank signial to compare with when I go back tomorrow just to cover my bases. Vehicle already has has multiple coil packs as well as plugs thrown at it. I'm just trying to be through in the diagnosis.

2010 Honda odyssey 3.5 cmp ckp. Measure the engine vacuum and the MAP voltage. Some valves may be adjusted too tight. Disable the fuel system, do a relative compression test, connect a pressure transducer to the intake, put another transducer in the tailpipe, use COP1 trigger as your sync, then crank the engine.

Don't overlook valve adjustment. We fought this on a Ridgeline we installed a rebuilt engine in, assuming it came with the valves pre-adjusted. Had multiple misfires. Think about what misfires will do to your fuel trims. Unburnt hydrocarbons cause oxygen sensors to tell the PCM that the mixture is rich, which in turn subtracts fuel, making fuel trims negative. I'm not saying this is your…

I will give another vote for checking valve lash, My experience is that they will generally run a bit better as the engine warms up and stuff expands. Random misfires and fuel trim issues are common signs.

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. I did look at valve lash and I checked cam/crank correlation per Ray's screen capture. All appeared to be normal. I did hook up my ATS Escan pro and went for a test drive. I performed a Cat efficiency test that quickly failed at 5% both cats. I did a thermal image shot of both cats and compared temperature to downstream shot. The varied in temp by 150…
